It’s hard to show work in progress isn’t it? A body of work that doesn’t yet know what it is. But I guess one of the good things is that it motivates artists to push through the uncomfortable stages of a series and realize it quicker. At least I hope it does 😂

I sometimes get asked why I make my own paint from rocks and dirt and I feel like this is a question that doesn’t really need an answer 😂Why WOULDN’T I make my own paint? There’s really so many reasons and there’s several happenstances that led me here but if I had to pick just a few - the BOUNDLESS yet unknowable stories in the pieces of earth I use and the irrefutable connection to place. Sublime. And another reason I’d mention here (if you’re still with me reading this far) is that I desired a process-centric, physical, and tactile approach to art making and, as a photographer first, I needed something more, even though I still love making photographs. The creation in me has many manifestations . Rolling up my sleeves and working intensely with my hands makes me more whole as an artist.

I’m SO excited to be teaching at once again. I will be running 4 new workshops throughout the year on foraging, making pigment from rocks and soils, and mixing a lovely paint 😊 you may book one of these dates through the Land Art site (link in both our bios!) can’t wait to make new connections with you all and talk about dirt for 2 hours straight 🪨 I’m so happy about the growing interest in sustainable practices in art.

Three colours of the earth - my palette is usually more extensive than this but not by much! This is a great representation of what I work with. Gotta love them. 🌎 This particular yellow is super gritty and a bit tricky to maneuver but it all adds to the personality of a piece.
