It was a busy set up day for the West End Sculpture Show 2026!
We had a visit with Kanata North Councillor Cathy Curry, pictured here with our amazing Show Director, Carolyn Sàndor, before the gallery came to life and was filled with sculptures in a variety of mediums.

Doors open tomorrow! We can't wait to see you there!

Célébrer le Jour de la Terre au Crow’s Rest

Je vis au milieu d’une forêt d’arbres.

Ils me tiennent compagnie
Et m’ont aidée à traverser
Les moments les plus difficiles.
Ils offrent un abri à mes amis les
oiseaux,
Me fournissent la matière première pour mes créations
Et comblent ma gourmandise.
C’est pourquoi, en ce jour, je leur rends hommage, ainsi qu’à la Terre dont ils sont issus, Avec un poème de Mary Oliver …

Celebrating Earth Day at the Crow’s Rest

I live among a forest of trees .
They are good company
And have taken me through
The toughest of times.
They are shelter for my bird friends,
Provide material for my chosen art form
And satisfy my sweet tooth.
So on this day, I honour them and the Earth from which they come,
With a poem by Mary Oliver …

“WHEN I AM AMONG THE TREES by Mary Oliver
When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.
I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.
Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”
The light flows from their branches.
And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say,
“and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine.”

Nice going , The Black Sheep Inn Wakefield !

Fortunate to hear the iconic Martha Wainwright at The Black Sheep, which she immortalised in song last time she was here.

Judging by her new material, ´these flowers are still coming up wild.’

Extraordinary.

Il y a une saison pour tout
Et alors que la saison des sucres touche à sa fin,
Je suis reconnaissant pour tout ce qui s’est passé
Et pour ce qui reste à venir.

And as the sugaring one comes to a close,
I’m grateful for all that came before
And all that is yet to come.
Bring on growing time !

La pluie s'est bien abattue et la terre a bien tremblé,
mais cela n'a pas empêché l'inspiration de jaillir au Crow's Rest…
Une journée idéale pour passer un peu de temps dans l'atelier et imaginer de nouvelles possibilités.
Rien ne stimule autant l'imagination qu'un petit séisme de magnitude 3,7 sur l'échelle de Richter

The rain did fall and the earth did quake ,
but it didn’t stop the creative juices from flowing at the Crow’s Rest…
A great day for some time in the studio to envision new possibilities.
Nothing shakes up the imagination like a little 3.7 MwN on the magnitude scale !

Un signe indéniable du printemps au Crow’s Rest… le cadeau doré des arbres. Tant de travail, mais quel bonheur ! Première récolte de la saison, et d’autres suivront !

L'art est l'expression d'une beauté
qui n'est pas tout à fait là,
d'une chose à peine réelle :
une pensée, un rêve,
Une mélodie que l'on entend dans le vent .
« L'art est un mensonge qui nous fait prendre conscience de la vérité ».
Si seulement c'était vrai,
ce serait extraordinaire…

Art is an expression of beauty
That’s not quite really there ,
Of something that’s remotely real
A thought, a dream a melody ,
That’s heard on the wind .
“Art is a lie that makes us realize truth.”

If only it were true,
How outstanding that would be …
