Oh, SNAP!
The last couple weeks have NOT gone according to plan... breaking my dominant (right) arm was definitely not on the agenda.
It's been a humbling experience, having to rely on others for almost everything (especially in the first week, but ongoingly for many things still). I have to sleep sitting up, propped up on the couch with many pillows and one of those neck pillows for travel. So thankful for all the Love Army folks who have shown up to support the healing process đź’™

In the moments of lucidity between doses of painkillers and dozing and the slow pace of basic life tasks, I've taken up The Lefty Sessions: small drawings and writing with my left/ non-dominant hand. It started 3 days after getting out of hospital and most days I'm able to find a small pocket of energy to draw. These are small, straight to pen bird drawings.

So while my art residency with # didn't go exactly as expected, I've channeled that energy in a new direction as the healing continues. Today is exactly 2 weeks since my broken wing, and I'm delighted with the progression.

Please share, what's one of your favourite birds? Bonus points if you include why.

1. Bald Eagle
2. How it started: the first Lefty Sessions drawing, 3 days after hospital
3. Blue Jay
The CT scan. Right arm. Proximal surgical humerous break. 1-3 month recovery... don't do this to yourself if you can avoid it!

Some works in progress. Combining ideas and embracing the last week of working from my dining room table before reclaiming my studio space. It's a blustery day out there and the leaves are turning, so here's some cozy autumn vibes.

More is more right? These tiny pieces, shown on a dinner plate, are part of the work I've been doing during the this September. This colour combo is named Ignite:

IGNITE is bold, energetic, and sassy, and refuses to apologize for her presence. She’s the first on the dancefloor, the voice heard all across the room, and the fire starter who gets s**t done! Some say she’s “too much” and don’t know how to handle her energy… look closer, though, and you’ll find she’s loyal, passionate, and a fierce champion for love and integrity.

What is it that delights us so much about tiny things? I'm currently using my time with the to create miniature works for an upcoming show. It's challenging to translate my concepts to an even smaller format, so it took a little while to get in the groove. Wrat do you think?

Seeking the Light... currently working on miniaturized versions of these forest scenes.
Have you read Finding the Mother Tree by Suzanne Simard? She's a ground breaking forest ecologist who has spent decades studying collaboration in forests and how the trees communicate through the mycelial network, sharing resources with one another. Collaboration over competition, just like a group of artists I'm part of. Spectacular book. Highly recommended!

This is what painting Iooks like in a small space: I spent most of the summer sailing on a tiny 23' boat with my husband, from Victoria to the Broughton Archipelago and back.

Not a lot of room for art supplies on the boat, so I packed a small travel kit of watercolours and allowed myself time to play and experiment.

Surprisingly to me, I spent far less time making art than I thought I would. We sailed long distances, sometimes for 8-12 hours at a stretch, and visited many places for the first time - so I spent a lot of time in my kayak exploring.

Painting, I mostly saved for rainy days (which there were not enough of! Praying for rain with all the wildfires raging...) - but it wasn't a summer to Accomplish Things so much as recharge, gather information, research, observe, and explore.

Now we are at home again and I'm ready to rejoin the artists of the for our September
Stay tuned!

Murky depths... things aren't always crystal clear but when I look closely, there are layers and curiosities and interesting moments to explore. I'm reminded to be patient and present and to truly LOOK.

Murky depths is 8" acrylic on wood panel and is still available for her forever home.
I wish you presence today.

SOLD - Dream a Little Dream... 8" round. It's been an incredible 10 days. 6 of my pieces have found their forever homes, and many small items besides. Now it's time to incubate, sleep, and start dreaming of the next creations.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who came out to support our show UPLIFT.
