For all those who has been following me, you know that i haven’t picked up the brushes for a while now.
But i did today, and i chose orange.
To honour those little souls that were taken away.. and those who are suffering from intergenerational trauma.
My mother-in-law is part of the Indigenous community, and although she didn’t suffer from any horrendous experience, because her parents did everything in their powers for them as children not to go to a residential school… but her parents, grandparents, great grandparents, uncles, aunties, cousins have their stories to tell. And this is still a very difficult conversation to start with, very touchy subject but i sat in discomfort and reached out. It was hard.
She has been sharing bits of stories to us, even before this news broke out, but mostly stories about how proud she is as part of the First Nations community, sharing their music to my son starting his younger years. The news was hurting and saddening but wasn’t a surprise to her.
As mom, i can’t fathom even the slightest thought of somebody forcibly taking my son away. So today, I stand in solidarity with the Indigenous Peoples of this land we now called Canada.
