Let’s talk session type! Producers and performers, this one is for you! (This is my opinion btw but also some of the usage stuff is just fact.)
1. Performance photos.
There photos are generally paid for by the producer of the show. While the performer may have an agreement with the producer, the performer should not reach out to the photographer and the photographer should have all dealings with the producer for these photos. Most of the time, these photos DO NOT make good promo for an individual due to lighting and contracts between the photographer and the producer. Producer may use these photos to promote shows going forward and pay their photographer accordingly.
1. Artist collateral
This is the photo session and type you will want to book if you are performing in a bunch of different shows with different producers. These are YOUR photos and can be used for show promo, teacher photos, and are a contract between you and the photographers. Often the limit for these is you can’t make merch or posters, but you can use them to promote shows appearances and more. These photos can be shot with more plain bright backgrounds and lighting with the intent to look good on posters and press releases.
1. Bo***ir sessions.
These are longer, more detailed, and often slightly more intimate. These photos can be used for artist collateral, portfolio submissions, and merch if you ask first and accept the contract and terms set out by the photographer. These images may be a little darker/
