DJ Chris Poynter specializes in weddings and corporate events due to high demand in these areas, but is no stranger to school dances, house-parties, bars, and clubs. His corporate clients have included the likes of Hudson Yoga, Canadian Tire, Lululemon, Hudson's Bay, and the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon. so has a great deal of experience as a live sound technician and recording engineer. As well as running sound for numerous small acts, he worked at the Chief Sepass Performing Arts Theatre in Langley for five years, and later as a part-time radio host for two years at CFUV 101.9 FM in Victoria. During his time at CFUV, he also enhanced his skill set by completing the course MUS 306: Sound Recording Techniques at UVic.

Here is a recent wedding I DJโ€™d at the Empress Hotel. I provided one of my custom DJ booths, sound system, uplighting, and 8-foot LED tubes for the afterparty in the Shaughnessy Ballroom; a second sound system and discreet wireless mics for the (very windy) outdoor ceremony; and a third sound system with a wireless mic for MC and speeches during dinner in the Bengal Lounge. It was a pretty epic event! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

It seems like once a year, Marika from Marika Whitehead (Owner) gives me a shout and says, โ€œChris. Iโ€™ve got a wedding for you. We need to meet up for a site visit though because itโ€™s gonna be big and complicated.โ€ And of course I say โ€œYes,โ€ and it is indeed big and complicated, but itโ€™s also always an incredible experience. I will NEVER say no to a Marika wedding!

This particular one brought me to a beautiful farm on the edge of the water in Central Saanich, complete with orchards, animals, gardens, forest, and a million dollar view of the Saanich Inlet.

I logged over 20,000 steps, as the ceremony & cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing, were all in different parts of the property. Flip through the videos to see a little bit of the magic that our amazing vendor team created.

This wedding at Olympic View Golf Club had the best of both worlds: A packed dance floor AND guests who could actually hold a conversation without shouting across the room! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

The wedding started with the ceremony out on the VERY windy green, but check out that crispy clear audio I managed to get with a high quality lapel mic and optimal speaker placement. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Cocktail hour and dinner were lovely, and then it was time to partaaay!

I started the night with the PA turned up for the formal dances and early party tracks. Then it was time for silent disco mode, in partnership with : Guests could choose between three channels, switch back and forth whenever they wanted, and somehow still sing every word at the top of their lungs. ๐Ÿคฃ I was mixing the bride and groomโ€™s requests on one channel, and the silent disco host had two Spotify playlists running in the other two channels; one with oldies and wedding classics, the other with 90s to now hits.

Later in the night the venue lights went down and the PA went back up for full on party mode! ๐Ÿšจ
