What a day on the waterfront. 🌊🦀
 
This weekend’s Local Catch gathering brought our community face to face with the people who make sustainable seafood possible. From fishers and ocean farmers to kelp harvesters, it was a chance to connect with the stories, knowledge, and stewardship behind the food we enjoy.
 
Events like these remind us that supporting local seafood is about more than what ends up on our plates. It is about strengthening our connection to the coast, the Salish Sea, and the communities that depend on it.
 
Thank you to everyone who came out to learn, connect, and celebrate our ocean together.

Meet the star of the show: BC Dungeness crab.
 
Known for its sweet, delicate flavour and tender meat, BC Dungeness crab is harvested from the cold waters along our coast, making it a true taste of Vancouver Island.

Join us this Sunday, May 31 for Local Catch with Ocean Week Victoria at Fisherman’s Wharf.
 
From 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, we’ll be down on the far westerly side of the last pier, alongside an incredible group of local organizations sharing more about sustainable commercial fisheries, small-scale fishing, kelp restoration, marine research, electronic monitoring, and the ways coastal food systems support communities and First Nations on our coast.
 
Stop by to meet the people connected to our working waters, learn how these groups are intertwined as stewards of the coast, chat with a fishing family about sustainable fishing, and pick up live BC Dungeness crab from BC Crab Co. Dockside Sales while supplies last.
 
There will also be ocean-themed family activities, a touch tank with sea cucumbers and sea urchins, and a dock cleanup dive by Wilson’s Diving at noon.

Beverages at BC CrabFest are officially on the menu 🦀 🍷

We’re excited to share the full lineup of beverage partners joining us at Ship Point this summer: Driftwood Brewery, Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse, Straight & Narrow, Blue Grouse Winery, and Spinnakers with non-alcoholic sodas and beverages.

With local beer, cider, wine, ready-to-drink options, and non-alcoholic refreshments, there will be plenty to sip by the harbour. Consider this your sign to come thirsty for the full CrabFest experience.
