Still “reeling” from the awesome closing night of Short Circuit Film Festival on May 2nd, which also marked the end of a whirlwind screening tour across the island.

The popcorn was poppin’ at , and kicked off the night with some blues harmonica. We showcased 11 local short docs and dramas with so many filmmakers in attendance for the post-screening Q&As, then wrapped it all up with pizza from . Much love to our super special community of indie film lovers who joined us for another year of Short Circuit!

What a blast at the opening night of our 14th annual Short Circuit Film Festival on May 1st - definitely one to remember!

We rolled out our red carpet runway, and brought together filmmakers and festival attendees at for an opening party to kick off the festivities.

On the big screen we showcased a mix of genre-bending short documentaries, animations, comedies, and even some sci-fi and suspense. All short films originating from our local islands region!

The stage was full of storytellers for two engaging Q&As, and the conversation continued into the night. Kudos to our filmmakers: @ .art .jpg

And that was just night one!

Just two weeks ago we wrapped up the Short Circuit Film Festival 2026 Vancouver Island Tour — we just couldn’t have done it without all of the incredible filmmakers, engaged audiences, inspiring speakers, and supportive partners and sponsors. Enjoy some photos from all the festivities, and many many more in our Flickr album (link in bio).

See you at the next one! 🎬🌟♥️

Register now for the One Take Super 8 and make your own short analogue film this summer!

Sign up for a chance to participate in Victoria’s local edition of a worldwide initiative that invites community-driven film creation, and provides a screening opportunity for anyone from curious newbies to professional filmmakers — or those feeling nostalgic for the grainy “home movies” of decades past.

Spots are limited for this fun, non-competitive event that lets you make your own 3-minute movie, created on actual celluloid film! No experience necessary. Participants are given a single film cartridge, and access to a Super 8 camera from CineVic for one week over the summer. In September all the films are sent away for processing, and in October they’ll premiere at a local screening.

Registration Deadline:
Monday June 1st 2026 @ 11:59pm

>> What is the One Take Super 8?
Super 8 film took the world by storm in the mid-20th century as the first handheld motion picture recording medium, and today the resurgent format remains an analogue escape from our digital world. The One Take Super 8 was started in the year 2000 in Regina, Saskatchewan — since then it has inspired the creation and screening of thousands of films in dozens of international locations. CineVic proudly brings the OTS8 back again for our 7th edition on Vancouver Island.

>> What does “one take” mean?
• You may choose to film your movie in one continuous shot, or plan it all out scene-by-scene, or simply record a collage of images.
• No editing and no re-takes. If you film it, we see it, all in the same order it was shot.
• No peeking – you will see your finished film for the first time along with the audience at the screening!
