Don’t you just love a pure white gessoed surface? Ready for possibilities. I love starting because it’s the most fun part—on these two small panels I simply transferred my leftover paint from my palette I was using that day. I use a plastic dinner tray for a palette—lined with damp Scot towels and parchment paper to keep the paint wet for days.

This is a 36” x 48” wood panel that I’ve been working on in the studio, here’s my progress from today. Do you ever get stuck on a piece, not knowing what to do next? I got tired of looking at where the painting was so jumped in to try a few things. After all, what’s the worst thing that can happen? If I don’t like something, I can always paint over it!

Yay! Sold and the home of the EJ Hughes Gallery in Duncan, BC. The Spirit of Little House was a sentimental piece inspired by the big open skies in Biesiker, Alberta on the way back to Calgary from a day trip with my honey at the Royal Tyrell Museum. You can also find a mounted fine art print at the same gallery.

Happy Boxing Day everyone! Have you ever spent a sunny day laying in the grass doing nothing but looking at the how the light shines through the leaves of the tree above you? Or spent an entire Sunday afternoon around a table indulging in good food and good company. Fully present, fully engaged, enjoying the moment so much you are not worrying about what you need to do next, or what tomorrow will bring? The Italians have a phrase for these moments, it’s Il Dolce Far Niente– the sweetness of doing nothing. And that’s what Boxing Day feels like today.

A piece of Victoria’s history, the old Duck building (1892) on Broad Street looks like it’s up for redevelopment. It looks like the facade is being preserved which is cool. I couldn’t help notice what an interesting abstract painting this would make.
