After fleeing war-torn Albania, childhood friends Mirela and Lena find refuge at a secluded, Orthodox convent deep in the forests of Thebes. The play will follow the sisters of Saint Euphrosynos as they prepare for the Great Lent, a holy month of fasting and pious study. As the sisters enter their fast, Lena tries to temper her sudden cravings for earthly pleasures. She spends her days in frenzied prayer and her nights gorging herself on honey-soaked figs, blood-red wine and raw red meat. But nothing can satiate her, and her hunger only grows as the convent draws closer to Pascha, an Easter feast celebrating Jesus’ resurrection. Lena’s feasting sets in motion a strange series of miracles which blur the line between the spiritual and the bodily, the sacred and the profane. When Mirela is offered initiation into the church, she is torn between the safety of the convent and the nun’s ritualized starvation, and her ravenous love for Lena.

Death, the Dance, and the Girl follows Death in his office, waiting for a client who is incredibly late. Enter Aphrodite, a prickly and newly dead 24 year old who died falling up the stairs immediately after breaking up with her long time boyfriend, Tom. Before Aphrodite can move through the door to What Comes Next, Death must process her, what she calls ‘ghost therapy’. Although initially hesitant, it quickly becomes apparent that Death needs some ghost therapy himself. As they grow closer, a surprise phone call comes through, giving Aphrodite a once-in-a-lifetime choice: Does she return to the land of the living, or instead continue into the What Comes Next, whatever it is. The show is about feeling in control, the way we cope with death and failure, and the way relationships develop, for better or worse.

In our society, often, it is not normal to protest for your happiness. The play “Be free” is about how a brave individual escapes these societal norms by prioritising her wellbeing. She walks away from a relationship that is not satisfying her to any depth and is only sustaining her survival. This play encourages audiences to focus not on how things may look, but how they truly feel and to fight for what you want. To not ignore your feeling self only for the mere wanting to live up to made up expectations. The play shows a story between 2 individuals but is acted out by 4 actors to show the divide between what we feel on the inside (feeling) and that we actually show on the outside (speaking). Saturated in layered symbolism there are several old truths being put on trial by protagonist Nina (Female Speaking) as she finds herself wanting more than the boundaries of these beliefs can allow her to have. We witness her journey to breaking free.

“Something Weird is Happening in Balanchine’s Backyard” is a piece melding aspect of both dance and theatre. It follows a ballerina taking class but slowly realizing over the course of the piece that she is not in a dance studio at all. This absurd concept reflects the experience many professional dancers have after they retire of reconciling with life after dance and finding a new identity outside of a world as all consuming as ballet. More broadly, this relates to a greater question of identity and to what extent we are defined by what we do.

Winter, 1942. An area outside Stalingrad. The Soviet army has suffered greatly in the war so far, losing much territory and tenfold more lives than most other major nations. Moscow is at risk of falling to the enemy. The play takes place near the frontlines, in and around a barracks that houses this women’s sharpshooter unit. The trio are lethal, elite soldiers. The commander’s quarters are nearby, as are additional Soviet housing compounds and headquarters. A relationship develops between Dasha and a prisoner of war.
