El Vado, a sweet 1937 motel on Route 66 in Albuquerque, is a fun place to stay. The rooms are stylish and cozy, and there is a cute pool and a taproom to enjoy. When I’m lucky enough to travel, I tend to gravitate toward seeing the old stuff. I like seeing things that are original and personal (as opposed to mass produced and corporate). I like the mom-and-pop shops as well as independent restaurants and hotels. I also love seeing old signs, perhaps for nostalgic reasons but also because they might indicate a business that has hung on through the years. “Dixie Inn” is in Louisiana.
