I am often asked where and how I paint on this type of trip. The answer is anywhere and everywhere!

I paint in the field, I paint in the car, I paint in the hotel room, I paint in shop while waiting for my oil change, lol. Sketching is such a huge part of my process and it helps me get things down right then and there.

This could be using paint, a travel watercolour set, markers, a pen, a pencil or whatever I have on hand.

My travel journals from these trips are some of my favourite visual candy 💚.

And all of this will help when I go to do my large paintings for each province, alongside all the photographs I took.

During a conversation with a woman in Kenora, Ontario, she shared what being Canadian meant to her. She stated, she felt she had taken for granted the vastness of Northern Ontario and all of the outdoor spaces that were available to her during COVID.

She reflected that she hadn’t appreciated all of the natural beauty and spaces that were available to her at that time, and she was very grateful.

Sometimes the inability to do something forces us to see something in a new light. Or to see what was literally in front of us all along.
