Pre-Concert Talk: Getting to Know Peng Xiuwen
Ever wondered how the festive energy of Harvest Drums is “drummed up” by the orchestra? Or how the poetic beauty of The Rising Moon unfolds layer by layer through the ensemble?
Before the main concert, we warmly invite you to join us for a relaxed and insightful pre-concert talk. This is not just a guided listening session, but also a rare opportunity to connect up close with our conductor and fellow music lovers.
The talk will be led by Jin Zhang, Music Director of the BC Chinese Orchestra. Together, we will explore each piece in this concert commemorating the 95th anniversary of the birth of the great Chinese national orchestra master, Peng Xiuwen. From the lively winds and percussion of Eight Immortals Celebrating Longevity to the sweeping grandeur of Rowing on the River; from the BC Youth Chinese Orchestra’s rendition of the timeless Spring River Moonlit Night to the poignant interplay of soprano and orchestra in Three Variations on Yangguan Pass — Jin will guide you through the stories, emotions, and artistry behind the music in an engaging and accessible way.
Whether you are a long-time enthusiast or new to Chinese music, feel free to bring your curiosity and an open ear. Come listen, share your thoughts, and be part of the conversation.
