UBC Slam Poetry

UBC Slam Poetry UBC Slam is a community of poets, audience members, and consumers of tasty donuts that gather every (5970 University Blvd). What is a poetry slam, you ask?

UBC Poetry Slams are held every other Friday at The Boulevard Coffee Roasting Co. We welcome absolutely everyone to share their words, songs, tap-dancin', rap-dancin, fun-huggin' lovely talents with us (... but mostly poetry.) We also charge no cover, so that's kind of the best. INSTAGRAM

Born in September 2009, UBC Slam Poetry was the brainchild of two cr

azy poets who thought it'd be great to bring spoken word to the campus of UBC. In the years since, our small community has grown. With biweekly shows and writing workshops, UBC Slam Poetry has flourished and has been able to represent at national festivals. Representing UBC Slam Poetry at the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam in 2011 was Francis Arevalo, followed by Mike Johnston in 2012, Sebastien Wen in 2013, Mariah Lynne Dear in 2014, Jaime Silverthorn in 2016, and Savannah Pulfer in 2017. We're going to let Wikipedia tell you, because we're lazy poets. "A poetry slam is a competition at which poets read or recite original work. These performances are then judged on a numeric scale by previously selected members of the audience." Thanks, Wikipedia. Come hang out with us.

Hi poets!💜 We’re back for another slam night, this time featuring Steve Miller!

Come listen to the featured poet’s work and read your own poetry during the open mic.🎙️

Date: Monday, March 30th, 2026
Time: 7:30 P.M. — 9:00 P.M.
Location: AMS Nest Room 2506

Steve Miller is a spoken word artist, slam poet, storyteller, performer, workshop creator/facilitator, singer(he thinks), musician(nope but I still try), renaissance handy person(who identifies as a man-kinda). He currently lives and works on the
unceded and ancestral territories of the Qayqayt First Nation, the first people of this land, and the shared traditional territories of other Coast Salish peoples, including the Musqueam, Kwantlen, Kwikwetlem, Tsleil-Waututh, and Katzie nations. Steve Miller’s work is defined by its relatable accessibility, often comedic yet raw
honesty and unflinching, confessional style. His poetry courageously explores the complexities of human connection, personal trauma, and the search for healing.
