The first time went so well, we decided to do this again! Join poet for a chapbook-making workshop! ☁️What is a chapbook? Join us and discover the wonder of DIY and small press poetry printing. This workshop will take you through generative writing prompts and teach you the basics of chapbook making, including folds and choosing how to find the best book format for your poetry. It’s a hands-on creative session where you will leave with a poem of your own in chabook form. Will we see you then?

💫We’re starting a letter club 💫I’ve always loved the art of letters. This is an effort to slow down, move away from the automatic and instant gratifications, and connect to this community in a new way. Do you love receiving mail? Did you know that April is national poetry month? We have this exciting book launch coming up to celebrate the new forthcoming poetry collection by Neil Surkan. The event is by donation (register at enablingarts.com/events) and will feature special guests Sophie Crocker, David Ly, Karina Irvine, & Adèle Barclay.

✨Neil Surkan is the Poet Laureate of Nanaimo, BC. He is the author of three full-length poetry collections: Empties, (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2026), Unbecoming (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2021), and On High (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2018). He has also published several chapbooks — Die Workbook (The Blasted Tree), Ruin (Knife|Fork|Book, 2023), Their Q***r Tenderness (Knife|Fork|Book, 2020), and Super, Natural (Anstruther Press, 2017) — and his award-winning poems have appeared in numerous Canadian magazines. A Professor in the Department of English at Vancouver Island University, he lives in Nanaimo, on the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, with Luca, Edi, and Lloyd.
