Featuring Eclectic Artist: Mel Anderson - “the” Mel of the Five Chicks & Mel ;-).

Mel Anderson is a South Delta based representational artist who is self taught for the most part, and paints almost exclusively with acrylics. His subject matter includes landscapes, architecture and cityscapes.

He is currently a member of the South Delta Artists Guild and the Federation of Canadian Artists. He can often be found painting outdoors en plein air with the South Delta Plein Air Painters and Men in Hats.

“It's all about the light. With each successive painting I endeavor to capture the obvious and the subtle differences in it. How to interpret light has been an ongoing pursuit. I don't try to paint emotion or invoke some deeper meaning ....... I just try to get the light right!”

Mel Anderson is an exhibiting member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and of the South Delta Artists’ Guild.

Featuring Eclectic Artist: Myriam Laberge - one of the Five Chicks & Mel ;-).

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” Inspired by Mary Oliver’s poignant question, Myriam embraced painting as a new creative path following a diverse 40-year business career. She embarked on a self-directed journey through various styles and mediums, ultimately gravitating toward acrylic, collage, and mixed media. Her works blend colour, texture, and pattern with themes of nature, ambiguity, and spontaneous discovery.

An intuitive abstract expressionist, Myriam creates pieces that range from luscious blooms to abstract landscapes and non-representational explorations.

Myriam begins each painting with a spontaneous gesture—whether a splash of colour, a torn paper edge, or a textured line—and evolves through layered improvisation, with curiosity as the main compass.

Myriam is an Active Member of the South Delta Artists Guild, an Exhibiting Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and has been a regular participant in Metro Vancouver art communities. Her work has received awards in juried shows, and is held in private collections across Canada & the United States.

Featuring Eclectic Artist: Heather Edelmeier - one of the Five Chicks & Mel ;-).

Heather’s artistic repertoire spans representational works, from intricate pencil portraits to subtle watercolour landscapes, vibrant acrylic compositions, and dynamic mixed media creations. Primarily a landscape painter, her inspiration comes from the rugged Pacific North-West Coast landscapes close to home. Occasionally, cityscapes, wildlife, and the rare European vista appear, adding diversity to her collection.

Nearly a decade ago, Heather's quest for unique expression led her to discover Pebeo's Fantasy Paint range, an extraordinary oil-based reactive paint that creates mesmerizing textures as it dries. The final canvas takes on a natural lacquered finish, reminiscent of a porcelain tile. This medium has become her artistic muse, driving her to explore and push the boundaries of its effects. Each of Heather's paintings is a testament to the unpredictable and enchanting nature of this paint, ensuring that every piece is a singularly unique work of art.

Heather Edelmeier is a Canadian artist with a passion for colour and texture in art. Born in British Columbia, she lived in Europe for over 25 years, returning to BC permanently in 2005. Though formally educated in the sciences, an avid interest in art since childhood has prevailed and nurtured an ongoing exploration of different mediums.

Heather is an exhibiting member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, the South Delta Artists’ Guild, and the South Surrey and White Rock Art Society.
