We’re about two weeks away from the world premiere of Pants at .arts from Jan. 17-20!

Can one reimagine gender from inside a middle-aged body while standing at the playground caught in the no "man's" land between the "moms" and the "dads?" 'Pants' takes a deep dive into the shallow end of the gender binary through raw comedy and dance that crawls inside our "packaging."

What happens to one's flimsy identity, built on blending, when one's offspring sheds the binary before recess? Profoundly personal storytelling is delivered through alarming comedy and movement that reveals the heart of the matter.

Dear TCP fam,

We hope you're feeling the good vibes on this Giving Tuesday! We're reaching out with open hearts and a whole lot of gratitude because, well, we could use a little help.

At Tara Cheyenne Performance, we're all about keeping the arts alive and kicking. But let's be real - it's been a bit of a rollercoaster this year. Between the unpredictable funding and the challenge of keeping the lights on while costs do their own thing, we're navigating the ups and downs.

Now, we've got something super exciting on the horizon – a fresh and fabulous project. Pants (premiering at the Firehall Arts Centre in January with a tour to BCMAS May 2024) challenges us all to take a closer look at our relationship with gender, those cozy or uncomfortable feelings we've tucked away, and the absurdity of the gender binary. Pink or blue? Seriously, is that all we've got? Well, let's just say Tara will be diving headfirst into the shallow end of the binary pool and questioning this utterly ridiculous assignment, all while gracefully navigating the turbulent waters of middle age.

But, here's the scoop: we're in need of some funds to make it happen, especially to afford our artist-designers who make the piece come alive. So, here's where you come in – any donation, big or small, is like a high-five to our creative crew. We appreciate every dollar of every donation and to acknowledge our gratitude we have a few gifts of thanks available for some donors:

* Every donation of $35-$59 will be entered into a draw for our incredibly cozy Tara Cheyenne Performance Hoodie!
* Every donation of $60-$84 will be entered into a draw for our brand new Pants sweatpants!
* Every donation of $85+ will be entered into a draw for a pair of tickets to the premiere at the Firehall this January!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Your support is invaluable!

Link to donate in our bio.

Love,
-TCP ❤️

Fall is here! You might be thinking, "Wait, summer's over already? I didn't read all those novels, watch the sunset (I can't stay up that late), learn Yiddish, or get that puppy..." But hey, life happens! 🤷🏻‍♀️

We've had a busy and fantastic summer at Tara Cheyenne Performance, and if you haven't seen the Barbie movie, consider it required viewing. Being validated as a "weird Barbie" has its perks, especially when you're a thoroughly frustrated and occasionally rage-filled human (aren't we all?). The revolution is just around the corner. And seriously, where can I score Ken's fabulous outfits for my fall wardrobe? 👀

Read more about what this season has in store for TCP including Pants premiering January 17-20, 2024 at the .arts, Goggles being turned into a film, Body Parts being presented in in April, and more! Full announcement linked in bio! 😎

Nick Gold here, just coming back from a rad summer. I feel like I learned a lot and have some words of wisdom I wanted to share with you as we enter the fall season.

1. Flow like the river. 🌊
2. Make sure to have real conversations and start those conversations with open ended questions. For example, if you were a sandwich what kind of sandwich would you be? 🥪
3. Don’t ask people what they do for a living. 🥱
4. Make eye contact but don’t be a creep. 🫣
5. Be an active listener, reflect back what you’ve heard, you know, like the water. 🐟
6. Nature knows how to have a conversation. Go outside. 🍃

Good luck, out there. 💪🏽

Latest podcast drop with Ashley Whitehead and Natalie Tin Yin Gan!

Ashley Whitehead (they/them) is a multidisciplinary creator and performer, and a third generation European (Swedish, English)-Canadian living on the unceded Coast Salish territories of the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations - also known as Vancouver, BC.

After creating Pulsive Party with creative partner Natalie Tin Yin Gan and their first full length show ‘Lip Service: Come and get some’, Ashley pursued a career in s*xual health education, and has since graduated from Options for Sexual Health’s certification program. Ashley currently works as an independent educator and is employed with Real Talk, a s*xual health initiative aimed at people living with cognitive disabilities.

Natalie Tin Yin Gan (顏婷妍) is an independent dance artist, writer, and teacher based in so-called Vancouver, on the unceded ancestral lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. Her practice squats at the intersection of ancestral spirit, somatics, and technology-induced melancholy. Natalie is the Co-Artistic Director of company Hong Kong Exile that explores the historical and contemporary politic of the Chinese diaspora. She is also the smaller half of v***a duo, Pulsive Party.

Ashley and Natalie share educational videos through Tiktok, and have completed a second show that revolves around a safer s*x lesson plan, ‘Lip Service 2: Breaking down Barriers’ that looks to tour to festivals, schools, and conferences in the coming years.

This week on Talking Sh*t with Tara Cheyenne: we’re joined by !

Sara Vickruck (They/Them) is an award winning q***r, multi-disciplinary performer, host, musician, song writer, sound designer, and creator currently living on the unceded territories of the Halkomelem speaking peoples. They work both on screen, and on stage in many venues across the country. Sara is a Jessie Richardson award winner and an Equity and Stage West 2020 Emerging Artist award winner. You may know them from the critically acclaimed show Polly Q***r Love Ballad, a slam poetry musical, as Mercutio from Bard on the Beaches’ Romeo and Juliet, or perhaps as part of the band The Quarantettes.

Something they are loving right now is building a future with their partner. One thing they wish to have more of in their life is writing and performing music, cause it feels so good. The practice of acting, singing, and creating is important to them because it continues to remind them to return to themselves and confront the things that get in the way of loving themselves and others.

Sara studied Musical theatre at Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton. They have and still do train privately with many acting coaches in Vancouver, such as Scott Swan, and mentored under Mischelle Cuttler in sound design.
You can check them out on Instagram or Facebook or their website www.saravickruck.ca
Some of their music is available on your streaming services, and The Quarantettes can be found on band camp.
