More moments from our recent tour to Smithers, BC ✨

Traveling together gave us the gift of time, to connect as a group, to share stories, and to learn more about one another beyond the work itself.

We value our relationships with our collaborators as deeply as we value the art we create together. For us, the process matters. We believe in nurturing spaces where connection, care, and trust come first, where we practice the relational rather than the transactional.

Grateful for the artists, the conversations, and the shared journey.

More of Camino y Despedida coming soon!

Still holding the warmth of presenting Camino y Despedida in Smithers, BC. 🤍

We believe in art as a way to find one another. A space where music, body, word, and image open sensitive doors. Theatre is not something we observe from a distance, it is a place of convergence. The stories on stage and the stories in the seats are not separate. For a moment, they breathe together.

To share this work in community reminds us why we do it. The vulnerability of offering the body, memory, migration, questions, and feeling them received.

Deep gratitude to the presenters who make these encounters possible, to the audiences who arrive with open hearts, and to the team who carries this work with courage and care. It takes unseen labour, trust, and many hands to create these moments.

We leave Smithers feeling seen, held, and inspired.🤍

Thank you Bulkley Valley Concert Association for your trust.

Thank you Myriad Dance Project for organizing a space to reflect in movement throughonline and in person spaces

Thank you Dance West Network for weaving connections across BC.

Thank you to our incredible Camino y Despedida team.

Camino y Despedida Workshop with in Smithers BC

“In intimate spaces we discover how similar we are... how we carry emotions interwoven between the present, the past, and the future. We discover that stories live within the interdisciplinary nature of being human. That circles of reflection, through movement and creativity, allow us to see, feel, and listen to what the rush of life does not permit.”

This was the first time we shared a workshop specifically centered on Migration and Hope , sharing not only the process of Camino y Despedida, but also reflecting on personal and collective stories, sometimes through words and sometimes through presence, body, and poetic gesture. The subconscious moving between and through us. The synergies and coincidences, the paths that cross, destinies that were meant to meet in this lifetime to reveal something to us, to plant a word, a seed, a perspective deep within our being. A being that will continue to develop through the relationships with which we cohabit.

Thank you for allowing us to learn mutually from our stories... this world in transition, our skins that change like our ways of thinking and seeing life, our suitcases and what we carry both literally and metaphorically. First, second, third generations of migrants… intergenerational, collective, a mestizaje of thought. Birds flying across the skies, humans in airplanes, privileges mixed and nuanced: nothing in this life is flat.

We need to expand the circles of conversation to continue developing our capacity to see the layers, and to live from that social interweaving of which we are a part, and upon which we have an impact through the way we share ourselves in the world.

Thank youuu for your presence, your vulnerability, and for the coincidence of meeting. I hope our paths continue crossing and that the reciprocal seeds we have planted bear fruit.”

Abrazos,

Description:

Through a dynamic, interdisciplinary approach, participants will explore movement and dance cues accompanied by live music. Together, we will weave a collective ofrenda (shrine) using provided crafts and materials, honouring the traditions that unite us.

Embracing the essence of Día de Mu***os, the workshop reflects on death as both a remembrance and a celebration of life—inviting us to engage with personal griefs, the passage of time, and the ritual of honouring the memory of our beloved ones. Participants will also connect with the symbolic elements of earth, air, fire, and water as we create an embodied ofrenda, honouring both our ancestors and life’s constant transformations.

This gathering offers a meaningful space for the Latin community to reconnect with its roots and traditions, while warmly inviting the wider public to share in the beauty of celebrating the cycles of life and death through this important tradition.

It was an intense summer putting the show together again in less than 3 months! Our hearts are so full after sharing Camino y Despedida with you last weekend.
