We’re still beaming from our fundraiser, Celebrate Capture, on May 28th!

Thanks to the generosity of those in attendance, participants in our paddle raise, and those who donated in absentia, we raised almost $100,000 to support lens-based art in Vancouver.

The funds raised will help us present compelling, urgent lens-based art, amplify the voices of traditionally underrepresented communities, build communities to incite meaningful dialogue between artists, curators, audiences, organisations and institutions, and act as a platform to expand visual literacy.

A huge thank you to the participating artists Vikky Alexander (), Khim Mata Hipol (.mata.hipol), Tom Hsu (), Jake Kimble () and Michelle Sound (.art), who generously donated their work for our event. It is especially meaningful when artists we have worked with give back to our organisation - we are indebted to you for your support.

Co-Chairs Presthaya Fixter () and Kevin Mazzone () and our amazing Fundraising Committee, including Fred Lee (), Leslie Lee, Alison Meredith (), and Joshua McVeity (), conceptualised this event from start to finish, ensuring a fabulous night for all! We are always thankful to our Board, led by Douglas Coupland () and Bruce Munro Wright (), for their enthusiastic encouragement.

This event would not have been possible without the following organisations and individuals in the community, including Fred Lee, The Kent (), Chinatown BBQ (), Aura Photography (), Saicho Sparkling Tea (), Garden Party Flowers (), Jamie Lee Fuco Photography () and Tor Sjogren ().

We are truly grateful for the generosity of our community! Thank you for helping us achieve our vision of connecting Vancouver to the world through lens-based art.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our first Speaker Series talk with Stephen Shore last Wednesday, which helped launch the 2026 Festival. A special thank you to Kristen Ga***rd, Herzfeld Curator of Photography and Media Arts at the Milwaukee Art Museum, who travelled to Vancouver from Milwaukee to be with us and Stephen Shore, who stayed up late to join us via Zoom, to Eva Respini, Interim Co-CEO and Curator at Large at the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Vancouver Art Gallery team for graciously hosting and last but not least, our sponsors, donors and supporters who allow us to put on events like this one.

We have a month ahead full of events, public art, and exhibitions that we can’t wait for you to experience!

Thank you to everyone who participated in making the Capture 2022 Benefit Auction such a success!

We are particularly grateful to the artists, galleries, sponsors and collectors for their generosity. Your support is a testament to the community Capture has built. We could not have done this without you!

2023 marks the Festival’s 10th anniversary and we look forward to marking the occasion by presenting compelling exhibitions, public art projects, talks and our catalogue, all in service of Capture’s mission to connect Vancouver to the world through lens-based art.

I especially want to acknowledge the artists who donated to our auction: the Festival exists to provide a platform for your work, so we are so thankful to you for supporting our organization.

Sincerely,
