New works by April Ponsford, whose paintings transform lived experience into richly layered abstract compositions that explore the relationship between place, memory, and emotion.
In Ocean Resonance, currents of violet, indigo, and white sweep across the canvas in a rhythmic, almost tidal movement. The work evokes the physical and spiritual presence of the ocean, capturing not a specific location but the feeling of immersion within it. Through intuitive mark-making and expressive texture, Ponsford invites us into an inward landscape where memory and nature converge.
In Searching, earthy tones and flashes of turquoise emerge from a dynamic surface that feels both geological and emotional. The painting reflects Ponsford’s ongoing exploration of connection: between people and place, past and present, and the seen and unseen. Forms appear and dissolve, encouraging a slow and contemplative viewing experience.
Together, these works embody the artist’s belief that landscape is more than scenery. It is a source of sustenance, reflection, and transformation. Explore April Ponsford’s collection at the gallery or on our website (ukama.ca)
