✨️✨️BIG news ✨️✨️

⏸️ I've decided to pause this account, and this project, for a time.

🎨 I've spent just under a year joyfully throwing myself into this experience. It has been a treasure to be able to start my first business, start selling in retail with the AMAZING team at .colourmarket, make biz friends (shout out to my girls .seamaker ), and put my heart out on the shelf.

💕 In the last few months especially, life has started to change in wonderful, unpredictable ways... and so has my focus. I love creating notebooks, cards, and bracelets, but my heart was especially drawn to making personalized and heartfelt custom items. After all, that's where this whole dream began - making things to send to family and friends. In addition, as I began to consider my personal relationships in the greater context of my life, I realized how important it is to champion love and a culture of staying through the hard times, in this world's culture of division, polarity, divorce and canceling.

🪜The next step made sense: using my art to celebrate the beauty and joy that is marriage. That's why I've decided to take a pause from retail sales and jump wholeheartedly into this new chapter of wedding and event signage. I am already being given the opportunity to illustrate important moments from the stories of couples brave enough to play the long game, and let me tell you, I know God has led me to the right place.

❤️ So while I press pause here, you can find me way more often at celebrating the life and love of some really special people. There's things in the balances that I am SO excited to share and it would mean so much if you hopped on board for the ride! I promise these amazing people will inspire you too ❤️

❗️ I will be doing at least one more market at on May 24, so if any of my work here interests you, PLEASE come say hello there! And if you don't come for me, at least come for the fantabulous ladies from who I will be sharing a booth with and are KILLING the small business game!!

I am here to write words for you. Words that touch, encourage, bless, and move you.

This is a place where words draw the eye and the heart towards authentic goodness, truth, and beauty. After spending some time reflecting what Words Matter is all about, I promise you that every piece of art moving forward will first and formost serve this purpose.

👋 Hey, hi, hello! For those of you new here, allow me to introduce myself again...

💛 The name's Meg(han). I am a (late) twentysomething who works as a physical therapist by day, and a hand-lettering artist by night.

💛 Words Matter was born out of a desire to create beautiful things by hand. After launching into my full-time career immediately after 8 years of postsecondary education, I needed a creative outlet that did not involve a screen. I accidentally happened upon a pencil case full of Tombow markers in the basement of my parents' house (coincidence? I think not) - and the rest is history.

💛 While I love to draw, words have always been the centre of my work. We live in a strange time in history, where it seems we are more divided as a society than ever before. I have always been a firm believer that words - civil dialogue where each seeks to understand, not speak- is a powerful solution to the many conflicts our world faces in 2025. While I don't have the ability at this moment to stand on high platforms and facilitate this global dialogue, I can cultivate it in my own community. I can use my words to encourage, empower, and embrace the people around me.

💛 That is the very heart of everything I make: to encourage, empower, and embrace everyone who receives it. Each piece is made with intention, thought, and love; with the goal of passing forward the desire to love others through words carefully and graciously chosen. By choosing to support my mission, you are doing the same. I'm so glad you are here.

✨️ tomorrow, 3-4 pm! ✨️

I will be at my home base .colourmarket to do some LIVE illustration! Select from an array of designs and key phrases to personalize your very own, FREE mini card (while supplies last - see photos for examples). All the while enjoy the wonderful array of surprises that The Colour Market has to offer, including the work of fellow local artisans .designs .seamaker 😘

I'm doing this because

a) I want to spread the handmade love

b) I want to hear what YOU have to say! What are you looking for when you shop from local artists! What stands out to you, what is the vibe that speaks to you?

c) I want to get to know the Kerrisdale community! My first job was in the (at when I was 16!) and I've gone to Kerrisdale for everything from orthodontics to banking to dimmer, my whole life! I'd love to know what the face of Kerrisdale looks like today and how best to cater to the community :)

✨️ W O R D B R A C E L E T S ✨️ are here!!!

*Word on the street* is that there is a story behind these (haha..ha) 😉

💪Some of you may know that I work full time as a physical therapist in public practice. A few months ago, one of my patients was having a really rough time... in her 90s, facing the reality that she would not be able to return home, and questioning her life's value. 👵

📿 Her grandkids came to visit her while in town to see Taylor Swift, and gave her one of the bracelets that Swifties are so known for, which read one word: FEARLESS. The woman was legally blind and could not read the bracelet, but the rehab staff used that word to ground, console, and empower her. She was a fearless woman, ready to handle whatever life brought her way with goodness and grace. 💖

My hope is that you will find a word that speaks to your heart. When you wear one of these bracelets, it will serve to ground, empower and console you. It will be a reminder that your circumstances don't define you... your response does. 💖💪

✨️ A reminder that Valentine's Day isn't just for your significant other! Valentines day is an opportunity to remind all of our loved ones that we love them.
💖 I made word bracelets for my family, as a tangible reminder of their most powerful and beautiful trait. I'll be giving these to family members along with a little valentine card I made on Canva!
💛 I am also giving handmade Valentine's cards to my parents (as well as my boyfriend), as an expression of my love and gratitude for them!

I've really been enjoying hand-illustrating these notebook covers lately! My boyfriend got me paint pens for Christmas, and they are so much fun to use. I have always loved living in a place with both mountains and ocean, so it felt fitting to draw a mountain-inspired cover for a little pride 😊

1️⃣ Our flagship products are our handmade cards, illustrated freehand with pen and ink. No stencils or digitization involved!
2️⃣ Soon to be added to the collection are our illustrated notebooks. These are industry standard notebooks whose covers we have hand-illustrated with designs that don't smudge or smear.
3️⃣ Another new member of the family is our beaded bracelets! These adjustable bracelets allow you to wear your favorite word on your sleeve. We are currently "crash testing" these prior to their official release into retail!
