An Evening of Flamenco and Cuban Guitar

Acclaimed Cuban guitarist, composer, and arranger Josué Tacoronte presents a concert that captures the full cultural and folkloric essence of the place where he was born and where the guitar has taken him.
Born in Havana and classically trained at the Amadeo Roldán National Conservatory,
Tacoronte has developed a distinctive musical voice that brings the essence of Cuban traditions into dialogue with Spanish flamenco and other Latin American influences.
Tacoronte is joined by trombonist Jeremy Berkman, a graduate of Juilliard and Oberlin and principal trombonist with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and Turning Point Ensemble. The two previously collaborated on Tacoronte’s Elementos (Zapateado Flamenco), and Berkman’s Simply Lyrical program of classical, folk, popular, and jazz traditions.

Join us for our Intro to Wax Carving Workshop, where you’ll learn the basics of jewelry wax carving and create your own custom ring from scratch. Add textures, fingerprints, initials, or personal details to make it truly one of a kind.

This introductory workshop offers a preview of an upcoming eight-session course on the theory and practice of Iranian music composition. Through guided listening, musical analysis, multimedia presentations, and discussion, participants will explore how composition works within the Dastgah system of Iranian classical music.

The session will introduce essential concepts such as modal structure, melodic development, rhythmic organization, musical form, ornamentation, and the relationship between improvisation and composition. Participants will also examine how traditional musical materials can be developed into original compositions while maintaining a meaningful connection to Iranian musical language.

All Levels are welcome!
