Rest in peace, Abdullah Ibrahim.

The Chan Centre sends its condolences to his loved ones, and to all who mourn his loss.

We had the honour of having the pioneer of Cape Town jazz perform in 2018 and in 2023. His 1974 piece "Mannenberg" became the unofficial anthem for anti-apartheid resistance. 20 years later, he performed for the inauguration of Nelson Mandela, who called him the nation's Mozart.

Ibrahim leaves behind an indelible legacy, and we are grateful to have played a small part in his 91 years on earth.
