Our Story

Slamming Door Collective is an ad hoc collective of professional theatre artists from the Vancouver community, with over 85 years of professional experience and two dozen Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards and nominations between them. Slamming Door Collective’s inaugural production of A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen, presented in 2015 as a Guest Artist Production with the Jericho Arts Centre, was an audience favorite and garnered both critical and commercial success. Following this success Slamming Door Collective once again partnered with the Jericho Arts Centre to present our widely acclaimed, award-winning production of Terence Rattigan’s wartime romance Flare Path.

After a brief hiatus Slamming Door Collective is returning to the Jericho Arts Centre with the eccentric comedy The Sea by Edward Bond (April 30 - May 19).

Set in 1907 Edwardian England, The Sea is a fascinating blend of wild farce, high comedy, biting social satire and poetic tragedy. The play begins as a wild storm shakes a small East Anglian seaside village. A well-known and beloved member of the community drowns but his outlander friend survives. Both comedy and tragedy ensue as the playwright explores the reactions of the villagers and the attempts by two young lovers to break away from the constraints of their hierarchical, and sometimes irrational, society.
