Here’s what you need to know to get ready for VQFF 2026 ➡️

⏳ We recommend that both ticket & passholders arrive early for popular screenings during this year’s Festival, including tonight’s Opening Presentation. Passholders can pick up a slip to save a seat within 1 hour before the screening begins.

🤞 Don’t have a ticket? You can try your luck joining the Hope Line (waiting list) for entry. Limited door tickets may also be available at each screening.

▶️ Check which films and programs are playing online or in-person only. A selection of this year’s films will be available to stream across BC from Sept 21–27, 2026.

Out of Shadows – Self-Love Beyond Stigma: Q***r Immigrant Lives with HIV in Ireland

Directed by Pradeep Mahadeshwar, Out of Shadows is a short experimental documentary centring three q***r immigrants living with HIV — Luis Noguera Benitez (Luis Noguera Benitez ) from Venezuela, Jordi Moya Roset (Jordi Moya Roset ) from Barcelona, and Prateek Bhardwaj (Prateek Bhardwaj ) from India — who made Ireland their home in search of safety, self-love, belonging, and community. Through their stories, the film explores migration, stigma, belonging, resilience and self-love.

For a film born from q***r immigrant stories in Ireland, seeing it reach audiences in Vancouver is incredibly special. 🇮🇪❤️🇨🇦

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Pradeep Mahadeshwar, hosted by Shruthi Budnar, alongside Saurav Mahind and Tanju Ozdemir, as part of the Shorts: Rainbows in a Desert
