A walnut base gives our porcelain house beacon a touch of warmth. ❤️

I've been eager to share our new Made in Manitoba stamp as well.

Here is hoping this spring brings you bright beginnings!

Many thanks to all the fine folks who joined us on Friday afternoon to connect over Ribbon Bag Making at CAST. Thank you to Muriel for sharing the tradition of Ribbon skirts in Indigenous Culture and reaching out to collaborate with the Soft Shop, it was a pleasure getting to know you through sewing and designing together.

The drawstring bags that were created by the participants were lovely, and reflected the promise of spring!

It's my pleasure to be back in Vancouver this spring to facilitate one of my favourite Workshops, Parol Lantern making at the beloved Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Gardens. This traditional Filipino craft makes for a memorable experience to connect with others in the community.

Arrive early and experience the serenity of the classical Chinese gardens as spring awakens the senses, take a moment to reflect as you visit the symbolic koi. Then join us in the Hall of One Hundred Rivers to connect over the craft of Lantern making. It is my honour and privilege to continue to share this tradition with you! It's a perfect craft to enjoy with a friend or two!

Workshop takes place on Saturday, March 28, 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM

This morning commute is giving sunshine, warmer temps and birdsong so I'm optimistic that more signs of spring will follow. In the meantime I'm going to keep sharing the little things that bring a smile to my face like figuring out this spiral ascending and descending staircase encased in the letter S for our Soft Shop at the workshop/fablab.

Left over pizza dough makes for mini Sunday cinnamon buns that didn't last long around the littles.

Hope you have a great week ahead,

Self proclaimed bag & clay lady, I could see the next life for these clay boxes that would help fulfill my summer garden dreams.

As I am my father's daughter, everything has potential, including being transported effortlessly. 10 clay cartons became a tote made possible with a piece of rope and cling wrap. Thank you Eva for photo #2 in the carousel!

Next life as temporary pots for my tomato seedlings. 6 pots per carton formed with twine and a box cutter. I plan to loosen the twine and place them directly into the garden beds.

Did I think that small envelope of seeds I saved one summer from a delightful tomato had 53 seeds that would form seedlings? ;) Here is hoping I can keep them healthy until it's time to dig into the soil.

Have a great day ahead!

Hi Friends, I hope you are well on this dedicated Valentine's and Louis Riel, Family day long weekend.

I've been meaning to share that I've started a new role at the University of Manitoba, School of Architecture Workshop as a technician. A month in, I am discovering ways I can contribute to support the students and engage faculty with the skills I bring to the table. This opportunity compliments my studio practice in ways I did not anticipate. I love that I get to continue to learn and hone my craft fluency with the guidance of my talented colleagues. I'm grateful to be able to collaborate on opportunities to share the techniques & methods I've grown familiar with in clay and soft product as well the challenge of supporting students of environmental design with tools and techniques they have access to in a well equipped woodworking workshop!

I am continuing to plug away at building my ceramic studio practice on the dedicated home studio days!

Please stay tuned for a couple upcoming lantern building workshops planned for the end of March in Vancouver! Would love to connect during our short visit if possible!

Sincerely,
Diane

On my drive home from this evening's inspiring Botanicals in Art lecture by Patricia Bovey at Mawa, it started to snow and it reminded me to share more winter pictures for Denise , the frosted trees were a magical sight from last week's commute that I thought others may appreciate ;)

Dear Friends, thank you for following along and the support you have shown Espiritu Design Studio.

This past year was made significant with our move to Winnipeg and setting up a studio that is currently a work in progress.

For the coming year, I am looking forward to engaging in and sharing new opportunities that begin this month. I endeavour to create meaningful experiences through the workshops I facilitate and building a presence in my community through the many ways we can collaborate and the delivery of mindful design services and products I craft.

Sincerest gratitude to the clients who continue to trust me with their ideas, it is a privilege to work with those that invest in the creative design process.

My family and I wish you and yours an optimistic and fruitful New Year!
