Flickering Light Productions Flickering Light Productions was formed out of a love for producing small-cast musicals.

Our first production, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s "Tell Me On A Sunday", was done this past spring in conjunction with Emerald Pig Theatrical Society. We are happy to continue our journey with our second production, "The Last Five Years".

"I love Proof, first seeing it at the Playhouse many years ago. So I came to see an excellent play. What I was not as sure of was the acting company. I can honestly say I found it a surprisingly strong production and exceeding many of the larger companies in the city. The lead woman and the father’s student both stood out for being so into the lines without ever overacting them. Direction seems to have brought out the best in the cast and the entire presentation rang true (everyone brought something to the stage). I also appreciated the attention to details, from the layout of the program to a simple but well planned set, suitable music and believable blocking."

"PROOF" opens at The Havana NEXT WEEK! The set is built and painted, costumes look fabulous, and the actors are ready to take the stage! It's time to announce the last cast member of David Auburn's "PROOF"!
Last, but certainly not least (not by a long shot), we have our fearless director, producer and actor extraordinaire, John Stuart, playing the role of Robert. A co-creator of Flickering Light Productions, John is once again wearing many hats this production, onstage and off, and we're excited for his debut performance with Flickering Light Productions!
John began his theatre career over 30 years ago in musical theatre, and since then he has remained involved by producing, directing, set designing, technical designing, plus onstage as an actor. His has trained over the years in Theatre BC sponsored workshops taught by professionals in their field, and is a past president of Theatre BC. There are many favourite productions he has had the privilege of being involved with, but some of his highlights in acting have been The Cowardly Lion in The Wizard Of Oz, Lennie in Of Mice and Men, Sam in Tales From Me And Irmie, and Judge Biddle in Trying. Among his directing favourites are Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias, Shakespeare’s The Taming Of The Shrew, Janet Feindel’s A Particular Class Of Women, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tell Me On A Sunday, and Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years. John can do a perfect Texas accent.

We open so soon! Do you have your tickets yet?
The next cast member of "PROOF", should look pretty familiar... She's one of Flickering Light Productions' Co-Creators, and she was our leading lady Cathy in Jason Robert Brown's "The Last Five Years" last year! Robyn Van Luven will be returning to the stage in the role of Claire in David Auburn's "PROOF", this February at The Havana!
Robyn is a classically trained singer who loves musical theatre. For 12 years, she was a member of the British Columbia Girls Choir, and participated in performance tours of Australia in 2000, and China in 2006. After she graduated as a drama major from the Langley Fine Arts School in 2003, she began studying English Literature at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. It was there that she met Gail Suderman, the head of the voice department, who encouraged her to hone her skills as a singer. In 2006, Robyn began the music program at Kwantlen as a voice performance major, and that same year starred as Mabel in Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance. In 2008, she moved to Victoria to complete her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Victoria, where she studied with Susan Young, and performed as a chorus member in the Pacific Opera Victoria. Upon her graduation from the University of Victoria, Robyn moved back to the mainland and collaborated with John Stuart, performing the role of Emma in Andrew Lloyd Webber's one-woman show, Tell Me On A Sunday, and she reprised the role in 2013. Robyn was last seen onstage as Catherine Hyatt in Flickering Light Productions' multiple-award winning production of Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years, garnering a "Best Actress" award from Theatre BC's Greater Vancouver Zone Festival.

Flickering Light Productions is very excited to announce a new member to the team, Taylor Hastings, as leading lady Catherine in David Auburn's "PROOF". Welcome to the family, Taylor!
Taylor Hastings is a long time performer from Vancouver, and began her career in musical theatre at the age of eight years old. Since graduating from a conservatory program in 2010, her focus shifted from theatre to film and television; acting in such productions as The Witches of East End (Lifetime), Untold Stories of the E.R. (The Discovery Channel), as well as in her first feature film, Spaces and Reservations. She is thrilled to transition back to the stage with Proof, an all-time favourite of hers, and hopes it is the beginning of many more to come! Taylor would like to note that she got straight C-‘s in high school, and had to do extra credit assignments to pass....how do you like me now Mr. Wang?!

Only a few more weeks until "PROOF" opens at The Havana!
Time to meet some of the cast!
Recognize this face? Riley Qualtieri was last seen onstage with Flickering Light Productions as our leading man in last year's multiple award-winning production of Jason Robert Brown's "The Last Five Years". Now he's back playing double duty as both Assistant Director, and the role of Harold (Hal) Dobbs in David Auburn's "PROOF"!
Riley wants to thank Flickering Light Productions for the opportunity to both assistant direct and act in Proof. His hope is that the audience is as struck by the honesty and simplicity of the script as he is. Riley's background is primarily in musical theater, with his past credits including Carrie the Musical (Fighting Chance Productions), The Last Five Years (Flickering Light Productions) and Ragtime (Two One Way Tickets to Broadway). He has also been recognized by the Vancouver Theater community with a "Best Actor" Award from the 2014 Vancouver Zone Festival, and a recent nomination for "Best Newcomer" at the 2015 Ovation Awards. Riley's next project is playing the marine Eddie Birdlace in Awkward Stage Production's Canadian premiere of Dogfight, running from April 29th to May 5th. Thank you so much for supporting local theater and our production of Proof.
