Happy Valentine's Day from Chalk 💘 Closing out our artist spotlights this year is Abby Hunter! 💕 Only a few more days to get your tickets, so don't miss out on catching Abby and Nicole's duet!

Abby, originally from Saskatchewan, is a contemporary dance artist residing in so-called Vancouver. She spent two years with The Source Dance Company training and performing, and six months training at Broadway Dance Center in New York City. Afterwards Abby joined Modus Operandi Contemporary Dance Program, directed by Tiffany Tregarthen, David Raymond and Kate Franklin and graduated in 2023. Recently she performed with Company 605 for New Works’ Pop Up Dances on Granville Island, and co-produced Garden Gallery, an immersive and site-specific showing, with Allie Shiff, Emily Clarke, and Kira Radosevic where she also presented a work-in-progress solo “Going Fast Going Slow”.
We can do dinner where she suggested and then go to an Airbnb or some cool event space, get it set up all nice, bring some food drinks music board games etc

🎟Final week to get tickets and only 2 more artists left to introduce! ⚡Moving us along this Monday is Nicole Pavia!

Born and raised in West Kelowna, Nicole started training in gymnastics and dance at a young age. Now, Nicole resides in Vancouver on the unceded Indigenous territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. In 2022, Nicole graduated from contemporary dance program, “Modus Operandi”, under the direction of Tiffany Tregarthen, David Raymond, and Kate Franklin. Through Modus Operandi, Nicole learnt from and performed works by Company 605, Out Innerspace Dance Theatre, Kate Franklin, Justine Chambers, Zahra Shahab, and Yin Yue. In 2021, Nicole began an apprenticeship role with contemporary dance company Radical System Art and is now a company member. Since, Nicole has had the opportunity to perform internationally with the company. Additionally, Nicole has collaborated with Kinesis Dance, Oksana Augustine, Abby Hunter, Calder White, and Rachel Maddock on past and upcoming projects. Nicole has showcased her work in music video “Who Are You Now” by artist Andrea Superstein, and her work “Tall Grass” at the Garden Galley in September 2023.

We're midway through our second last week of rehearsals and here to introduce another artist, Jamie Ranney! 🌟 Come support Jamie's work next weekend, tickets still available on Eventbrite!!

Jamie Ranney is a dance artist practicing on the unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), xwməθkwəy̓ əmv (Musqueam), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Jamie is a graduate of Modus Operandi, where she trained under the direction of Tiffany Tregarthen, David Raymond, and Kate Franklin. Jamie has been exploring her practice as an engagement with the natural world and is particularly interested in how social roles and identity influence relationship to environment. She researched these themes during her time as resident artist with both The Croft in Northern Michigan and Koumaria in Sellasia, Greece. Through both residencies, Jamie created site-specific work built around outdoor spaces and engagement with local communities (both human and nonhuman). Choreographic credits include the Vines Art Festival, the London Dance Festival, and the Eaux Claires Music and Art Festival. Along with her dance practice, Jamie is pursuing a degree in conservation from the University of British Columbia, which she is using to create cross-disciplinary work focused on care, sustainability, and public activation.

Bringing us into our third week of rehearsals is Katelyn Brooks! Scroll down to read more about the artist Chalk has been working with to bring an excerpt of a work they created in the Netherlands for the company 💫

My name is Katelyn Brooks and I am from Fort St. John BC. I recently moved to Vancouver to be a member of The Source Dance Company directed by Joanne Pesusich and I am loving every minute of it! I've been dancing since I was 12 years old and nothing compares to the way I feel when I'm dancing. I am super honoured to be dancing a piece choreographed by Chalk Dance.
