Well kiddies,
We're one week away from the screening of Much Ado About Nothing: The Legend of Spectral Theatre at the Rio Theatre and we couldn't be more terrified. Scandals will be revealed, reputations sullied, popcorn and beer consumed, as our audience follows the anarchic exploits, from beginning to end, of the theatre company that made "theatre for people that don't like theatre".
It was often said that Spectral Theatre was greater than the sum of its parts, and this documentary follows in that regard. Since its World Premiere in New York at Shockfest in December of 2023, where it earned a nomination for Best Documentary, "The Legend of Spectral Theatre" has been well-received by audiences in both Montreal and Seattle, where it also won an award for "Best Soundtrack", and a nomination for "Best Director of an International Documentary". More than just 2 hours of self-aggrandizement, "Much Ado About Nothing" pulls back the curtain on the struggles of independent theatre artists in Vancouver, and in so doing tells a story that is universally relatable to those that fly the DIY banner anywhere on this planet.
So, if you think you know what this documentary entails, perhaps think again 😉
The screening will be hosted by the affable David C. Jones who will also moderate a post-screening Q&A with a handful of legendary Spectraliens including, David Quast, Justin Clow, Jim Dreichel, Aurora Chan, Sebastien Archibald, Lori Watt, and director Simon C. Hussey.
And for those folks who have wisely taken the following day off work, there will be an after-party at the nearby Legion Lounge, where we'll be screening archival footage and enjoying the sounds of the many amazing bands that loaned their music to the award-winning soundtrack.
Stay spooky!
