Impossible Things Productions

Impossible Things Productions A fresh and tasty production company for live and video geek-focused entertainment! Once upon a time there was a little production company.

The little company wanted to make great art, but it seemed like that would be impossible because of all the big bad competition. Well, said the little company, it might be impossible, but gosh darn it, I'm going to try anyway. So the little company rolled up its sleeves and tried to to the Impossible Things, and one day, with a little luck and lot of work, it will do the Impossible, and become Mighty.

Since 'tis the season, and sadly 'tis also the Third Wave, here's a repost of a little bit of twisted humor from earlier this year and your monstrous pals at Impossible Things.

UPDATE: The actual character parts are filled, but we can always use some more ensemble. If you're interested, drop me a line.

WHO'S BORED AND WANTS TO SING?

I certainly am. So Impossible Things is going to try An Experiment! I have written a parody of "This Is Halloween" from The Nightmare Before Christmas, all about our current situation: 'This Is Quarantine', and I want you to help me sing it!

I will need at least 10 people, and preferably more: there are 11 specific character parts, and it would be nice to have some more voices for pure ensemble as well. If lots of folks are interested I think I'll cap this one at 20 - this won't be my first edited vidoe but it will require a few new techniques and it's going to be just me doing the post work.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- A decent singing voice: This is a little community project so pro is welcome but I'm only thinking 'community theatre musicals' level.
- A good Internet connection: in order for everything to remain consistent, I need to be able to send you the backing track that will be under everything.
- A camera: Reasonably modern we**am or phone is okay, but I need to see you sing your part
- A microphone: Decent quality, perfection is not required but the result shouldn't be audibly low-quality. Try to minimize noise and room reverb, we need the audio as clean as reasonably possible.
- Willingness to be silly!

WHAT TO DO:
- DM me (personally or via Impossible Things, it's all good) for inclusion so I can update my list and the announcements
- Receive the backing track and lyrics
- Record yourself, I require video and matching audio. Giving me a clean take via we**am is fine; if you have the technical know-how and preference to record the video and audio separately that's even better. I can take one file or two and work in pretty much any common media formats; I prefer lossless or minimally lossy formats where possible, but if you aren't familiar with what that means or how to work around it don't sweat it, this is just for fun anyway. I am envisioning these framed like we**ams, like a Zoom meeting, whether or not you really record with such a thing.
- Send the results to me. Any reasonable way will work, you can upload to Google Drive or Dropbox or WeTransfer or anything you prefer as long as it works to get the file(s) into my hands.
- Wait for me to actually make something happen. I will, I swear! Also wish me luck. This is a new one.

PARTS:
Note: I don't have actual sheet music or official vocal designations here. So I'm sort of mashing middle-range baritone/tenor/alto/contralto together into 'MEDIUM' here. I'm sure you know how the song goes - the high is really high, the low is really low, and then there's everyone else and they're all being a bit Strange. That's good. I like Strange! The part they replace from the original is noted in parentheses.
- Doctor (MEDIUM) - Terrified health professional in a lab coat and scrubs or similar. (Monster Kids Trio)
- Father (BASS) - Harried dad stuck at home with his kid. There's kids' things scattered around. (Co**se Dad/Melting Man)
- Maker (BASS) - Surrounded by crafts, someone who is compulsively making Art to stave off the lockdown pressure. (Creature Under the Stairs)
- Maskless Man (MEDIUM) - A dudebro who refuses to ever wear masks in public regardless of public health. (Oogie-Boogie)
- Mother (MEDIUM) - Frazzled mom stuck at home with her kid. There's kids' things scattered around. (Co**se Mom/Harlequin)
- Muncher (MEDIUM) - Compulsive eater surrounded by snacks. (Clown With The Tear-Away Face)
- Nurse (SOPRANO) - Terrified health professional in a lab coat and scrubs or similar. (Monster Kids Trio)
- Sleeper (MEDIUM) - Lethargic person trying to sleep the lockdown away. Ideally filmed while in bed. (Creature Under the Bed)
- Watcher (MEDIUM) - Compulsive TV and movie watcher. (Mayor)
- Work-From-Home Gal (SOPRANO) - Woman dressed for work but stressed out and not quite professional. (Ghosts)
- Work-From-Home Guy (BASS) - Man dressed for work but stressed out and not quite professional. (Ghosts)

Then of course there is also the ensemble, for Bass, Baritone/Tenor, Alto/Contralto, and Soprano. I'd particularly like to get a couple more Soprano voices in here.

Okay, does it sound like fun? I hope so! Contact me to join in! I will update this post as parts are filled.
