Rainbow belt, peace suspenders, blue crop top, and cat on my lap.
The outfit I wore to my first protest yesterday. Cat excluded. 😂
If I had dressed like this in the states and gone to a protest, I would have been easily identifiable.
If I was in the states and the police had searched me, they would have found the w**d I carry for recreational use, in a bag that looks non-government issued. It would be considered recreational as I don't have a medical card for it.
Do you think I would have gone to prison for multiple years? Do you think I would have been arrested and taken to the station? Given a fine? Would I have been just given a warning?
I don't know. I won't know either. I'm apart of the poverty system, but I'm also a short, caucasian Canadian who looks female.
What I DO know, is that people of colour are being detained, arrested, assaulted and MURDERED over lesser crimes. Over crimes they haven't commited, or issues they were not apart of.
All because of the colour of their skin.
This oppression NEEDS to stop. It is everywhere. It is everyday.
It is happening right now.
Help stop this cycle. Do your part. No matter how small it is, it will help.
Everyone deserves to live their life without fear.
