In 1978 Timothy Leary appeared on “The Stanley Siegel Show” in New York. The host, Siegel, ambushed Leary with a surprise call-in appearance by TV personality Art Linkletter, who fiercely blamed L*D and Leary’s advocacy for his daughter’s tragic su***de. As Leary attempted to walk off the show, Siegel physically restrained Leary, who laughed, before engaging in a volatile confrontation with Linkletter, who said of Leary: “I had hoped he would die. I had hoped he would be hung”.
During the ten minute video segment - available on YT - the brilliant and measured Leary toys with Siegel and Linkletter, the latter two demonstrating a one-two punch of idiocy that Leary deflects before losing his patience, and ending the interview by telling Siegel: “Go back to Iran! You’re an ayatollah! What do you want to do? Cut the heads off of people who drink beer because you don’t want to?”
