RCMP StRoch model reception at the Vancouver Maritime Museum

Here is the final video of the StRoch model project. This is a 1:24 plank on frames hull showing the ship on the hard in Halifax shipyard sometime in the spring of 1944, when she was refitting. She was upgraded with a new 300HP Union diesel as well with extended superstructure with improved crew accommodation. Also her rigging was changed from schooner to ketch.
The framing as well as all the bare wood parts are made from boxwood, planking is old growth yellow cedar, rubbing strake is australian gum wood. Windlass is made entirely from brass as well as both cable drums on the forecastle. This was a very long project, starting in 2017 was put on hold during the covid and restarted only at the beginning of 2025 totaling around 6000 hours of labour.
It will be part of the Vancouver Maritime Museum and hopefully will be somewhere on display close to the real ship.

Here is probably the last video before the model of the RCMPolice StRoch will be completed. I decided to go midway with the sails arrangement with mainsail furled around the boom and the foresail set as for drying.
You probably noticed the scaffolding around the stern area where major repair work is supposed to be done.
I will set several workers on the scaffolding before I will enclose the model under a fisplay case.

Another short video clip showing the framing of the main superstructure being build. All timber used is boxwood and the masking is to protect the inside details from dust and other debris falling inside while working on the structure. Forecastle hardware is completed as well as standing rigging for the main mast.
I am still debating with myself if I am going to install sails fully deployed, furled or none. The model is supposed to show the ship refitting in shipyard with considerable repairs on her stern, so sails fully deployed will not make too much sense.
Anyway look forward for next update which probably will be the last as I hope to finish the model in four to six weeks.
