A wonderful highlight was a specifically long drive from Braemar to Aberdeen for only a half day… JUST to meet the folks at GRAMPIAN HOSPITAL RADIO. I had been reaching out to them for over a month and hoping for a reply… I luckily heard back and got to visit.

I found out about this wonderful station quite randomly while poking at stations around the world on "Radio Garden" (I have bookmarked about 50 so far - from Dali China, to Faroes, to Oz) and one I really was chuffed by, was GRAMPIAN HOSPITAL RADIO… this sweet station takes requests from patients in the hospital, and plays those requests and broadcasts them to the radio at their bedside (and around the world on the interwebs too)! It is quite wonderful… so fun to hear a Vera Lynn (1945) immediately followed by the Undertones (80's punk), then T-Rex (70's glam rock), then… pretty much anything else! I love the unexpected in radio. It was so thoughtful and fun. We have nothing like this in Canada (If we start one, I want in!)

I really got drawn into this station and got familiar with a couple shows. One called a "TOUCH OF TARTAN" featured what I was sure was a 70 plus year old wise gentleman who had a great DORIC QUIZ that amused me since I could in no way even understand the question! It made me laugh since I was so utterly perplexed. It turns out CRAIG IS the second guy you see in the first pic, and is only maybe 30?! - I was totally wrong on that too!! HIS SHOW is an award winning show as well!

In my upcoming (15th) show about travel tales, I will have some great video of this whole darn thing where he even asks me a couple questions in studio! It was quite funny.

I will be most pleased to think JOHN, KENNY and CRAIG may even see this post and add a note here too! Its more fun for me now to tune in and now KNOW the faces to the shows I hear.

I was so lucky to meet these kind volunteers at GRAMPIAN RADIO - - - "YOUR RECUPERATION STATION"

Kallur Lighthouse in Kalsoy, Faroe Islands. Windier than you could imagine typically... and well worth the wait to see the sun come around to hit that face. Working steadily on building new show, but it will take time. Some great stories to be sure. *For Bond Fans, it was here where Daniel Craig's James Bond breathed his last (in No time to Die) and there is even a headstone. A long way to go to pay your respects to a fictional character but a great place to visit whether you are a Bond fan or not.

After doing countless shows throughout Canada for 25 years plus, it was really AMAZING and FUN to do my first INTERNATIONAL show in ICELAND. I chose the very community that so inspired me called Grundafjorður. Though I was not there too long, some of the funniest and sweetest moments took place here. I loved seeing the audience have such a nice time with the show overall ,but seeing ELLEN's father in the crowd (she and her two friends sing a most lovely Icelandic song to this weary traveller when we met out of the blue - and quite absurdly - that very clip was shot right outside of the door of the theatre where I was now performing the show 3 years later! Tomas took this fun newspaper photo and wrote this fun review for the paper! Yay, thanks!

I was also pleased to have had 3 creative musicians who came in from Reykjavik who contributed some amazing music for my show, and Solrund's sister attended too. I met Solrund, the charming retired principal in front of the gas station on her battery kick-board-scooter! She gave me a great clip about the Icelandic phone book (only phone book in the world listed by first name). Solrund was so kind and funny… she sadly passed last year. It was wonderful to have her sister see Solrund in my show being so fun and funny.
Thanks so much ICELAND. my IRE AND ICE show is streaming online if you wish to tell people to check it out on my website. It's even cheaper when you convert it to Icelandic Kroner ;-) wrjphoto.com

1) FAROE ISLANDS "most beautiful Half Marathon" - great fun despite headwinds. Crazy winds! - I have video of these falls going UP! I almost think walking at some select points could be FASTER since you always have one point of contact so do not get blown back as it feels you are when you are running and are off the ground at times (a human sail). Great fun.

2) Still hoping for you EDMONTON GETCA teachers who have loved my shows over the years that they will bring me back in Feb 2026 for the newest ROOM TO ROAM show (Norway). It is wild! Tell GETCA if you want me back, as that might be what makes it happen! Thanks

3) If you have seen my ICELAND show, I'd be happy if you share this show I am doing IN ICELAND on SUNDAY!! (or post a comment so people might know it is worth seeing). woo hoo. https://www.facebook.com/events/796490513064626

(Canadian photographer and adventurer William Jans has arrived in Iceland with his highly entertaining travel show about Iceland! His shows are fast, funny, and full of unexpected events. Over 80,000 Canadians have attended them in the past twenty years.
This show is English – but William also tries out a little bit of clumsy Icelandic. He shows incredible joy and admiration for our country. Come and see Iceland through William’s eyes!

The Lonach Highland Games are amazing! This "Bobby on a bike" has been leading out the marching band and procession (that is hundreds deep) for many years. This then is the start of the Lonach Highland games which was quite fantastic. Caber tossing too, bagpipes contests, running races, super great!

Hello to folks in Edmonton with GETCA. I’m in Aberdeen Scotland at the moment building a new show, but I’m writing you to say tI’m thrilled to have proposed doing my newest show called “Room to Roam” about Norway at the 2026 GETCA convention in February! If you saw “IRE &ICE” two years ago when it overfilled in the room (at double capacity), I hope you might let the GETCA admin folks know you’d like to see me back! This show is pretty wild!
