Upcoming screening event in Calgary, AB!
𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺𝘀, a Calgary-based independent production studio is preparing to premiere their new action thriller, 𝘕𝘢𝘮𝘦’𝘴 𝘑𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘢𝘯, on 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟯𝟬 at the theatre at 𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗼𝗸.

𝘕𝘢𝘮𝘦’𝘴 𝘑𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘢𝘯 is an independent action-thriller pilot made in association with 𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗥𝗔 𝗔𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮 and produced locally with over 𝟭𝟰𝟱 𝗔𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀. The film features 𝗝𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗹𝗲𝗱𝘇, whose credits include 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘜𝘴, 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥, and a recurring role in the recent production 𝘈𝘯𝘯𝘢 𝘗𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘰𝘯, alongside 𝗞𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 and 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝗮𝘇. The project also includes an 𝗘𝗺𝗺𝘆-𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 and sound work from 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼𝘀.

The premiere is bringing together cast, producers, VIP guests, business owners, sponsors, Alberta film professionals, and local creatives for the red carpet and screening, followed by an industry mixer at 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 with around 𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝗔𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀.

House of Films is led by local film graduates who are now building a production company from Alberta, with the goal of helping rebuild the province’s film network from the ground up.

Cineworks is proud to present a free screening of 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 (2021, 17:33 minutes), a short film by award-winning filmmaker Heather Perluzzo.

This female-centered sci-fi drama explores the complexities of love, identity, freedom, and what it means to save yourself.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the artist.

Cineworks is pleased to present 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗮, an introductory workshop and practical study of film music, led by film composer and musician Carlos Solares.

What makes music in film sound like film music? Is it the use of a full orchestra with soaring melodies? Or is it the synchronization of music and image? What about musical tropes that signify meaning? What is there to say about harmonic choices?

During this lecture, we will look at the relationship between music and the moving image in order to gleam insights into this magical marriage.

The evening will start with a historical summary on film through various milestones. A particular focus will be on the influence of Romanticism during the Golden Age of Hollywood. With this background established we will discuss the ideas of Tropes and their functions applied to film scores. After that we will look at Neo-Rienmannian Theory and its utility for understanding the harmonic language of film music.Finally, we will open the floor for discussion and further examination of all these topics with practical examples and deep analysis.

Cineworks is proud to present 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗸 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘄𝘀𝗸𝗶 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴, a free screening of two short films by Polish-born, Vancouver-based cinematographer and filmmaker Franek Golebiowski.

Moving between intimate drama and understated surrealism, the program follows two characters caught in moments of uncertainty.

Cineworks is pleased to present 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀, an introductory workshop on making your own short, short film, led by filmmaker Tammy Tsang.

"𝘐𝘧 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦, 𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘢 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳." -Blaise Pascal.

Ever wanted to write, direct, and/or produce a short film, but the competition has limitations on runtime, script page count, and/or shoot days! How will you ever get your magnum opus completed?! There's no way you could execute such a feat!?

Come stop by the 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 workshop and learn how to craft a compelling (micro) short film. Participants will dive into Tammy Tsang's 2-minute film, "Lauren In The Bathroom" which won the awards for Best Director, Best Screenplay, and People's Choice Best Performance in MAMM16's Ultra Short category. Take a peek at the documents, planning steps, and discussions which helped to shape and effectively execute the film to make it what it is.

Cineworks is proud to present a free screening of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳 (2026, 168 minutes), a feature documentary by self-taught documentary filmmaker, Ying Wang—a critical reflection on the fragility of freedom and the enduring tension between our desires to draw close and impulses to pull away.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the artists.

From a sanctuary of reunion to a site of sudden closure, a border park between the US and Canada becomes the stage where families, friends, and displaced souls navigate the tightening grip of political change, and the stark loss of the last shared space between the two nations.

Filmed from 2021 to 2024, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳 traces the emotional and often absurd choreography of life in this temporary "free zone". Through fragments of longing, humor, and intimacy, the film reveals the strange contradictions of a place that was both open and closed, public and personal, symbolic and deeply real.
