🍊 Theatre Terrific Archives: Looking back at "Naked Oranges" 🍊

We are diving into our production history to celebrate a piece that beautifully captures the heart of our mission. Directed in 2006 by Susanna Uchatius, "Naked Oranges" brought together an incredible, inclusive ensemble of diverse artists to explore the beautiful, messy realities of the human experience.Driven by a blend of humor, original music, and imagery, the play dove deep into a world of human vulnerability, fears, and misgivings. It pulled back the layers on the fragile nature of human connection, reminding us that even when the risk of failure, misunderstanding, or rejection is present, simple acts of kindness still hold the profound potential to change everything.

Inclusive theatre isn't just about sharing a stage, it is about sharing our universal human struggles and finding connection through them.

ID: A group of nine individuals, part of a theatrical cast, poses playfully on a wooden stage against a solid black backdrop. The central motif tying the group together is a bright orange citrus fruit, which nearly everyone is holding, biting, or interacting with. Arranged at varying heights from standing in the back to sitting on the floor, the cast members wear vastly different attire, ranging from modern jeans and a scarf to a n**e bodysuit, a regal white robe, and one shirtless individual. Their dramatic and expressive poses, including one person sticking out their tongue with oranges held to their ears, give the portrait a lively theatrical energy.

Stories have the power to connect us all. ❤️✨

We are incredibly excited to share that Theatre Terrific has partnered with the 411 Seniors Centre to develop a deeply meaningful community show titled "Origins of the Heart: From There to Here." Under the guidance of our wonderful Theatre Terrific facilitators—Kevin Jesuino, Advah Soudack, Sara Holt, Emily Grace Brook, Lauren Han, and Tristan Pearson—the participants are currently crafting personal monologues exploring the powerful theme: "How did we get here?"

At Theatre Terrific, we are deeply committed to working within the community in impactful ways that draw out true, lived stories from the people we engage. This project is just one of many ongoing community initiatives we are proud to support!

📌 Please note: This special presentation will take place in late June and is an invite-only event dedicated to their immediate community.

ID: An interior shot captures a collaborative, brightly lit community space with two distinct groups gathered at separate tables. In the foreground, a woman on the right wears a mustard-yellow cardigan and a pink-toned scarf, smiling warmly as she types on a laptop. Facing away from the camera, an individual in a grey zip-up hoodie sits opposite her at the grey folding table, which also holds a red water bottle, a smartphone, and some papers. In the background near a large window, a second group of three people is engaged in conversation around a white table. This group includes one person in a white top with a yellow scarf, another in a blue patterned shirt resting their chin on their hands, and a third individual dressed in black. The room is finished with light wood-laminate flooring and red-cushioned chairs, creating a casual and focused atmosphere.

It’s National AccessAbility Awareness Week! ♿️👁️🙌

Art thrives when everyone has a seat at the table—and a spot on the stage. This week, we celebrate the incredible power of inclusion, representation, and accessibility in the theatre community.

Let’s keep breaking down barriers and building spaces where everyone can shine. 🌟

Below the text, against a background pattern of yellow dots, two performers are highlighted with a soft white outline: on the left, a man with short brown hair in an orange zip-up jacket and blue jeans sits in a motorized wheelchair, looking left with one arm extended; on the right, a woman with her hair in a bun, wearing a dark floral shirt and blue jeans, stands and gestures with both hands.

Last night Neworld Theatre hosted their inaugural Rumpus Awards -- a chance to gather the community and honour, in the most silliest and heartfelt way, those unsung heroes of our theatre community.

Theatre Terrific's Artistic Director Kevin Jesuíno had the absolute privilege of surprising Harmanie Rose with a well-deserved award for her phenomenal work as Assistant Director and Choreographer for Theatre Terrific’s "Dance Floor Memoirs".

Harmanie completely redefines what an inclusive rehearsal process looks like. Working with our mixed-abilities cast, she threw out the old one-size-fits-all mold in choreography. Instead, she met every single performer with extraordinary care—honouring access needs, leaning into individual strengths, and adapting choreography so everyone could participate authentically.

Thank you, Harmanie, for creating a rehearsal space that was safe to take risks in while also truly accessible. 💖🎭

We want to send a massive, standing-ovation-sized thank you to the incredible crew, collaborators, and sponsors who brought this wild night to life.

TTS member Lianne Crowe is in an award-winning film and it's screening in Surrey this weekend.

Mildlife won Best Canadian Feature at the Victoria Film Festival earlier this year. It's a coming-of-age story about a young man navigating depression, his hardcore band, and a complicated relationship with his parents - both of whom live with cerebral palsy. It features Lianne alongside Adam Grant Warren of Glitch Theatre, with shadow puppetry by Mind of a Snail. This is our community on screen.

We made this at the Vancouver Fringe Festival last year.

Dance Floor Memoirs is set in a fictional town on the eve of the biggest community dance the neighbourhood has ever seen - until a city-wide ban on public dancing threatens to shut the whole night down. What unfolds is about a lot more than a dance. A child's first robot. A daughter's dance for her mother. A quiet act of courage on a crowded floor. And the question underneath all of it: what happens to us when the right to move is taken away.

Dance has always been resistance. This show knew that.

Performed by a diverse ensemble of disabled and non-disabled artists at the Vancouver Fringe Festival 2025. Now on film.
