Ever wonder where Salsa music actually comes from? 💃đŸ•ș It’s not just one dance—it’s actually a giant "musical soup" that was cooked up in New York City! đŸ—œ

Even though the music started in NYC, its "DNA" comes from Cuba and Puerto Rico. Basically, Cuba provided the rhythm, but New York gave it that "tough" city attitude.

Here is the quick back-story:

đŸ„ The Roots
Before it was called "Salsa," it was based on Cuban Son. This style mixed Spanish guitars with African drums.

The Heartbeat: Almost all Salsa follows a beat called the Clave. It’s a 5-beat pattern that the whole band has to follow. If you lose the Clave, the song falls apart!

đŸŽș The "Fania" Era
In the 60s and 70s, a record label called Fania Records became the "Motown of Salsa." They brought together legends like:

Celia Cruz (The Queen! She always yelled "ÂĄAzĂșcar!")

Willie ColĂłn (The trombone player who made it sound urban)

Héctor Lavoe (The most famous voice in Salsa history)

📈 How it Changed
1970s (Salsa Dura): This was "Hard Salsa." It was loud, heavy on the drums, and talked about real life on the streets.

1980s (Salsa RomĂĄntica): This was smoother and sounded more like pop music. It was all about love and heartbreak.

Today: Salsa is global! From Colombia to Italy, people are dancing "On1" and "On2" everywhere.
