We are back and LEAPing into action this year! 🦹 Our LEAP (Learning Early About Playwriting) program is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 cohort ✨

📣LEAP is a full-scholarship program, and it is 100% funded by donors and sponsors. There is no cost to students!📣

Instruction is offered at three levels:
Level 1—students are mentored through the creation of a short-form play (10 minutes)
Level 2—students write one-act plays
Level 3—one student is supported through the creation of a full-length play

Beloved musical iconoclast Wyckham Porteous passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 17.

Much of Wyckham’s work revolved around the people of his neighbourhood in East Vancouver, where he spent most of his life. The local and poetic are inextricably linked in all of Wyckham’s music. With his partner, Patti Fraser, he co-created six musical documentaries for CBC and co-wrote and performed the iconic one-person show JOE’S CAFE at the Arts Club.

“Wyckham’s performance in JOE’S CAFE gave all who saw it at the Seymour Stage ‘a glimpse of paradise,’” said Bill Millerd, Arts Club’s Artistic Director Emeritus.

He will be deeply missed by the arts community locally and beyond

A memorial will be held for Wyckham on October 3, 1 PM, at the Legion Hall, 2205 Commercial Drive.

Thank you to our incredible partners at Dockside Restaurant | Vancouver for hosting our annual Donor Appreciation Party! Not even a soggy forecast could prevent this group from having a great time catching up, connecting with our leadership, and getting excited about the upcoming theatre season.

We are very grateful to Dockside Restaurant for their support, not only as a restaurant partner for our patrons, but also during every opening night, and for events like these all season long.
