Jean Paul Langlois recently dropped off a new painting for the program. The work depicts Paul Newman’s character in Hombre, a 1967 revisionist Western. This painting is part of an ongoing body of work through which Jean Paul explores cinema tropes to understand his alienation to his own indigenous and settler cultural background.

Pictured: Two Apaches and a Breed (Hombre), 2025, acrylic on canvas, 36” x 60”. Available for rent or purchase, visit our showroom or inquire for details.

Simone Ximeng Guo recently came by with new paintings from her current series for the program.

Simone is a Chinese-Canadian artist known for her distinct yet poetic landscape style. Her work explores a unique visual vocabulary through her Chinese lens, transforming the familiar northwest coast terrain into a mysteriously otherworldly realm. Her stylized landscape reflects on personal perception, memories, emotions, and draws upon a broad cultural reference.

Available to rent or purchase, see link in bio for details or visit our showroom on the ground floor of the Vancouver Art Gallery’s Annex.

We are pleased to announce Garland of Creation, a selection of paintings by Featured Artist Joyce Kamikura ✨

Kamikura's paintings are a personal response to her surroundings. Her subject matter often draws inspiration from otherwise insignificant or unexpected places: something that flashes and whistles at her, transforming on the canvas into shapes, colour, and line.  Her subjects range from landscape, to life studies and florals.

Joyce Kamikura was born in Steveston, B.C. She spent her early years in B.C.'s Lemon Creek internment camp, before relocating to Japan. As a teenager, she moved back to Canada, first to Montreal before settling in Richmond. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Business Administration from UBC. A practicing artist for decades, Kamikura's work has been widely published and exhibited in Canada and internationally.

Garland of Creation is on view in the showroom through August 21st. Visit the show in person in our showroom at the ground floor Annex of  weekdays from 10 to 5, or learn more via the 🔗 in our bio.

Pictured slides 2 – 4: Poppies in the Field, 2025, acrylic on canvas, 30” x 40”; Old Timers, 2025, acrylic on canvas, 30” x 40”; Where the Land Meets Water, 2025, acrylic on canvas, 36” x 36”. Available for rent or purchase, inquire for details.

Lesley Finlayson with new work for the program ✌️

Lesley’s landscape paintings begin en plein air, using the immediacy of painting and drawing techniques on paper and canvas to record her sense of the space, light, colour and textural characteristics of where she is working. These are often changing as she works, and are further enhanced or modified by factors such as sounds and smells, wind and temperature, and emotions or reactions to current life events. Later in the studio, the pieces are refined through processes of contemplation and remembrance, so that rather than being definitive portrayals of the appearance of specific locations at particular times, they become painterly explorations of places visited in person, and then revisited in memory.

Pictured slides 2-6: Can't See The Wood For The Trees #7, 2025, acrylic on canvas, 42” x 62”; Whistler 1, 2006, acrylic and charcoal on canvas, 37” x 49.5”; Can't See The Wood For The Trees #10, 2025, acrylic and charcoal on paper, 17” x 24.25”; Familiar Ground #2, 2024, pastel and chalk on paper, 20.25” x 24.25”; Familiar Ground #3, 2024, pastel and chalk on paper, 20.25” x 24.5”

Recent delivery of new paintings by AR&S artist Heather Craig ✨

Heather’s practice engages the culture that we inhabit, with an emphasis on understanding loss. This drive arises from many years of experience as a nurse, and from personal experience. For her, life’s biggest test is to manage the losses that come our way, and for that reason her work often deals with the process of grief. At the same time, she has an appreciation of the joyful and whimsical aspects of life. The materiality of paint is inextricably bound with meaning in her work. She takes colours and simple signs, and paints, allowing her work to take on a presence and authority of its own.

The large painting has rented, however the other two paintings are currently available for rent or purchase, see link in bio for more.

Pictured slides 2 and 3: The Space Filled, and And You Will Too, each 2026, acrylic and mixed media on panel, 36” x 36”.
