Lesley Finlayson with new work for the program ✌️
Lesley’s landscape paintings begin en plein air, using the immediacy of painting and drawing techniques on paper and canvas to record her sense of the space, light, colour and textural characteristics of where she is working. These are often changing as she works, and are further enhanced or modified by factors such as sounds and smells, wind and temperature, and emotions or reactions to current life events. Later in the studio, the pieces are refined through processes of contemplation and remembrance, so that rather than being definitive portrayals of the appearance of specific locations at particular times, they become painterly explorations of places visited in person, and then revisited in memory.
