IN THE STUDIO // Ayîki-Pîsim taking shape

In process with Artists-in-Residence Margaret Grenier and Starr Muranko, whose new work Ayîki-Pîsim will be shared at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in March at ‘Everything you ever...’

On September 30 and every day, we recognize the importance of creating space for Indigenous voices, perspectives, and artistic practices, and the work required to take action.

At Ballet BC, that work across our 2026/27 season includes commissioning new creations from Indigenous choreographers including Margaret and Starr and Cameron Fraser-Monroe, decolonizing our artistic contracts with Indigenous artists, internal teamwork including workshops on cultural practices, ensuring accessibly priced tickets for various communities and groups, and partnering with Indigenous visual artists to welcome new public art into our spaces.

Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. We’re in it together.

26/27 ARTISTS // Familiar faces

Eighteen dancers are returning to the Ballet BC stage for its 40th anniversary season.

Luca Afflitto, Sidney Chuckas, Emanuel Dostine, Imani Frazier, Michael Garcia, Joziah German, Orlando Harbutt, Eduardo Jiménez Cabrera, Kiana Jung, Kelsey Lewis, Pei Lun Lai, Kylie Miller, Benjamin Peralta, Vivian Ruiz, Kaylin Sturtevant, and Jacalyn Tatro are back as full-time Company Artists, and Stan Tonin and Kailey Worontsoff return as Emerging Artists.

Ballet BC’s company grows by two this season to 22 artists in total under the leadership of Medhi Walerski, offering more flexibility and opportunities for the artists.

ON TOUR // St. Pölten

Frontier is back on stage tomorrow night in Austria! Along with Medhi Walerski’s ‘SWAY’ and Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber’s ‘Obsidian,’ the program marks the company debut for new Ballet BC Emerging Artists Travon Carter, Kaitlin Cheung, Jayda Zhu, and Marcos Marqueta. Plus, we welcome Chloe Ohira and Nicole Powell, guests artists from Arts Umbrella, to round out the 24-dancer cast for the renowned work by Vancouver’s Crystal Pite.

We can’t wait to share these works for the grand opening of the 26/27 season at .at! Toi toi toi to our incredible dancers.

It's time! Ballet BC is now accepting applications to audition for its 2027/28 company! For 40 years, Ballet BC has been a home for diverse, open-minded artists celebrated for their talent, versatility, and passion for our art form.

We are looking for experienced dancers to apply to audition for both full-time Company Artist and Emerging Artist positions. Invite-only in-person auditions will take place on November 29 in Vancouver, BC and December 6 in New York City.

ANNEX 2026 // In the studio with Michael Garcia

Ballet BC artist michael garcia is the first company dancer to choreograph for our junior ensemble, Annex—a meaningful demonstration of the trust placed in Ballet BC’s dancers to grow and evolve not only as performers, but as artists with creative voices of their own. “It’s a huge opportunity to get to wear multiple hats,” says Garcia. “To try to be both the best dancer and the best choreographer I can be, in the same building, on the same day.”

Our Winter Intensive returns this December! This year's four-day session places a strong emphasis on individual artistry, creative development, and audition preparation. Participants will work closely with Ballet BC artists, and engage with solo material drawn from the company’s repertoire, offering a rare opportunity to explore the distinctive choreographic languages that define the company.

Who: Professional and pre-professional dancers aged 15-22
Where: Ballet BC Studios on Vancouver's Granville Island
