Jerry Wasserman from Vancouverplays.com came to see the show on opening night and raved about our cast's voices. "The actors all have terrific voices, and music director Shawn Henry, who plays keyboards in the background, has arranged some lovely harmonies."
He also stated Nunsense may be the antidote we all need from the news this month. "Nunsense, a light-as-a-feather r***e disguised as a play, presented by a ridiculously talented cast, may be just the antidote."
There are so many incredible things to do this week. The Georgia Straight highlighted 40 events and our sisters were included (note the cute group photo in the article!).

Steel Magnolias graces The Nest stage on Graville Island
Steel Magnolias is a stage play by American writer Robert Harling, based on his experience with his sister's death. The play is a comedy-drama about the bond among a group of Southern women in northwest Louisiana. The title suggests the "female characters are as delicate as magnolias but as tough as steel".
HOW IT CAME TO BE...
Actors Lalainia Lindbjerg and Sheryl MacMillan were sharing one day (during a rehearsal for another production) how frustrating it was to be getting older in the ‘business’. You start to feel more capable and confident as an older woman, right when everyone else decides you’re too old! Lalainia shared her desire to put on Steel Magnolias at some point and Sheryl jumped on the band wagon, as well as Ranae and Jaime who were both in the same production. Approaching director Shel Piercy was the next step. Piercy suggested Gillian Barber for the classy ex-homecoming queen Clairee and Lalainia recommend Chy for the role of Ouiser, so brilliantly played by Shirley Maclean in the 1989 movie.
At the first read through the group knew that they had something special and unique on their hands when there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. They agreed that forming a team of knowledgable, gifted designers would really bring the project to life. Francesca Albertazzi (designer for Love It or List It, and Theatre Under the Stars) is designing the set and props and veteran & award winning costumer Chris Sinosich will be doing costumes. Local actor/producer Damon Calderwood signed on as Producer.
This is an incredibly gifted group of actresses, with passionate, determined, and empathetic hearts that want their audience to come in expecting to laugh, cry and experience the beauty of friendship along WITH them!
