Ma thรจse de maรฎtrise examine la faรงon dont l'hรฉritage colonial et la culture de consommation faรงonnent les notions nord-amรฉricaines de progrรจs et de valeur.
Par le biais d'une fiction spรฉculative inspirรฉe des discard studies, j'imagine comment les humains du futur pourraient interprรฉter les vestiges de notre prรฉsent.

Je reconstitue des fragments d'architecture classique avec du carton, des objets trouvรฉs et des dรฉchets du quotidien. En travaillant majoritairement avec des matรฉriaux recyclรฉs et ร  faible impact, je construis des formes anti-monumentales qui remettent en question la permanence culturelle et les systรจmes qui la dรฉfinissent.

๐‘Šโ„Ž๐‘Ž๐‘ก ๐‘ค๐‘’ ๐‘™๐‘’๐‘Ž๐‘ฃ๐‘’ ๐‘๐‘’โ„Ž๐‘–๐‘›๐‘‘
My MFA thesis examines how colonial legacies and consumer culture shape North American notions of progress and value. Through a speculative fiction lens informed by discard studies, I imagine how future humans might interpret the remnants of our present.

I reconstruct classical architectural fragments using cardboard, found objects, and everyday waste. Working primarily with repurposed, low-impact materials I build fragile, non-archival forms that question cultural permanence and the systems that define it.

๏ฟฝTo conclude my first year as an MFA student, I presented an installation that extends my ongoing research into architecture, consumer culture, and material waste.

The work is an evolution of two earlier projects:
๐‘€๐‘Ž๐‘ข๐‘‘๐‘–๐‘ก ๐‘๐‘œ๐‘™๐‘œ๐‘› - ๐ท๐‘Ž๐‘š๐‘›๐‘’๐‘‘ ๐ถ๐‘œ๐‘™๐‘ข๐‘š๐‘›๐‘–๐‘ง๐‘’๐‘Ÿ, now 10 ft. tall with the addition of a pediment roof that fits snugly between the ceiling and the wall;
and ๐‘†๐‘ข๐‘๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘š๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘˜๐‘’๐‘ก, an ongoing diary of fruit and vegetable labels arranged on a Shoji paper scroll.

Both explore the absurdities and [slow]-violence of extraction and North American cultural heritage through the lens of ordinary pollution.

I continue to reflect on neoclassical forms - simultaneously refined symbols of knowledge and institutional authority, and kitsch elements of commodity culture. Among the supermarket, plastic and throwaway culture, I explore the space between the unabashed promotion of Enlightenment heritage and the reality of North American legacy.

The works in the exhibition dwell on promises of protection in the built environment, sense-making in response to eco-grief, and the interactions of place with body. By rendering the walls into these dwellings permeable, each artist brings viewers into their burrowsโ€“spaces that linger between constructed and organicโ€“and invites them to stay.

After spending the fall semester mostly exploring materials and casting trials, I'm finally able to develop my ideas in a more concrete way.

At this point, I'm experimenting with different sizes and arrangements of molded and ornamental elements for a column project inspired by neoclassical architecture.

๐˜ผ ๐™ก๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ฉ๐™ก๐™š ๐™ข๐™ค๐™ง๐™š ๐™–๐™—๐™ค๐™ช๐™ฉ ๐™ข๐™ฎ ๐™˜๐™ช๐™ง๐™ง๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ฉ ๐™–๐™ฅ๐™ฅ๐™ง๐™ค๐™–๐™˜๐™:
> Through sculptural assemblages and casting techniques, my research-creation explores the properties of sustainable materials to imagine a speculative fiction: how might future archaeologists interpret the remains of Western civilization?

By revisiting neoclassical forms, I aim to critique the idealized narratives of Western culture, while addressing the systemic issues of colonialism and industrial extraction practices.

La session ร  Emily Carr University of Art + Design sโ€™est terminรฉe avec ma ยซcritiqueยป et prรฉsentation finale du cours de Studio I.

Durant cette premiรจre session ร  la maรฎtrise, je me suis concentrรฉe sur l'expรฉrimentation de matรฉriaux de moulage comme le carton et la pulpe de papier, et des bio-plastiques de gรฉlatine et de tapioca.

J'ai explorรฉ diffรฉrentes faรงons d'assembler des objets trouvรฉs et des matรฉriaux rรฉutilisรฉs dans un ensemble cohรฉsif.

Bien qu'encore dans une phase expรฉrimentale, j'ai prรฉsentรฉ ces piรจces comme une collection brute afin de mettre l'accent sur l'exploration des matรฉriaux et l'expรฉrimentation formelle.
