Staircase Alumni Alert!!
Hi friends! Super pumped about this online course coming up and wanted to share it with you.
Want to overcome your fear of cold reads, and, dare I say it, learn to love them? Then this is the course for you! With over fifteen years experience in improv and theatre, instructor Brent Hirose will share the skills that helped turbo charge his voice over career and equip you with a variety of tools to increase your creativity, engage your sense of play and have fun in the booth!
Participants can expect to not only come away with a variety of exercises to help you think on your feet, quickly create characters and push yourself outside of your comfort zone, but also develop techniques to increase your comfort with cold reads, giving you more confidence with last minute changes in directed sessions, make bold choices to stand out from the crowd and speed up your work, letting you get more auditions done in less time.

Postponing The Burden of Life & Calling for Submissions -

It is with very heavy hearts that we have made the decision to postpone our production of The Burden of Life. Amidst this crisis, the uncertainty, and restrictions, it just doesn't make sense to proceed at this time. While this is very disappointing, we recognize the importance of cancelling large...

While many of us may be 'socially distancing' ourselves, we can still reach out to friends and family who need us via social media. (Oh and remember that old thing called a telephone?! :) )

When you're having a crappy day and you post about it on social media, you're likely to receive at least a heart emoji from friends. When someone posts about chronic experiences of depression, or being in a mental health crisis, they'll might also…

Help Us Make It Happen!

To support our upcoming show, The Burden of Life by Sebastian Kroon, and our partnership with the Crisis Centre of BC, we’re launching a Kickstarter Campaign and we’d love your support! Its an important piece about depression and su***de and we really believe in it.

Get your early bird tickets, and other cool perks, now at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/theburdenoflife/the-burden-of-life-by-sebastian-kroon?ref=creator_nav

The Burden of Life is a heart-warming, heart-wrenching, laugh-out-loud comedy about depression and su***de. Right?! It doesn’t sound like that should work, but after reading it a couple weeks ago with the rest of the team, I can tell you that it does.

We are partnering with the Crisis Centre of BC, and they’ll provide resources to our audience, join us for two talk backs, and our creative team, and hopefully some of our audience, will participate in their su***de prevention workshop, safeTALK.

If you think you might buy tickets anyway, this is a great way to get a bit of a deal on the tickets, support the show, and our community partnership upfront. Funds raised in this campaign will go toward a rehearsal space, bolstering our set budget, and more.

There are all kinds of good perks for our backers, including tickets, handmade postcards, personalized playlists from the show, a pair of tickets to Chirag Naik’s upcoming Arts Club show, and a serenade by our very own Nick Fontaine, just to name a few. Check it out!!! We'd be so grateful.

Staircase Theatre presents the world premiere of local playwright Sebastian Kroon’s ‘The Burden of Life’. Shockingly funny and intensely relevant, this sensitively-told story asks when is enough, enough? And what would it take to make you decide to stay?
Shattering the silence around su***de with both tears and laughter, ‘The Burden of Life’ speaks to the unending hope that is the human condition. Runs April 23-May 3, Wed-Sat 8pm, Sat & Sun 2pm @ Studio 16. Preview April 22.
