If you’ve been carrying a heavy burden or bearing witness, we invite you to sign up for this free offering at Massy Books.

During the third week of every month for the rest of 2026, we’re opening the upstairs space to anyone who would like a cedar brushing from χʷəy̓χʷiq̓tən / Audrey Siegl.

Cedar brushing is a traditional form of medicine used to cleanse what is unhelpful, to clear the body of negativity and to uplift the spirit.

χʷəy̓χʷiq̓tən / Audrey Siegl works with the teachings and medicines passed down through her Musqueam family and ancestors. She has long been active in grassroots environmental, social justice, and political frontline movements. While her practice is rooted in West Coast and Musqueam medicines, she has worked extensively across Turtle Island with many teachings and medicines. She is proud and honoured to carry forward the work of her grandparents and ancestors.

This offering is free and open to the community, though registration will be required.

Please note that the upstairs space will be closed while cedar brushings are taking place. A sign will be posted at the bottom of the stairs to let customers know.

What power lies in Indigenous storytelling, mythology, and imagination? Spend an evening with internationally acclaimed Haisla and Heiltsuk author Eden Robinson in celebration of her new novel, The Sorceress of Sky Serpents. Following a welcome from Manuel Axel Strain Robinson will be joined by Secwépemc and St’at’imc writer Julian Brave NoiseCat for a conversation exploring the inspirations behind her imagined world, the role of Indigenous mythology in contemporary fantasy, and how stories carry culture, identity and resilience.

The evening will feature an audience Q&A and book signing with Robinson during the post-event reception, which will include snacks and refreshments. Other books by Robinson and NoiseCat will also be available for purchase onsite. This event is supported by , , , , , and . A signed copy of The Sorceress of Sky Serpents is included with the purchase of a Book Ticket.

Taking The Sorceress of Sky Serpents Book Launch to the streets of Metro Vancouver.

Don’t miss out on an evening with Haisla and Heiltsuk author Eden Robinson, who will be joined by Julian Brave NoiseCat for a conversation exploring Indigenous mythology, storytelling, and the inspirations behind her sweeping new fantasy book.

Manuel Axel Strain will open the night with a welcome. Following an engaging discussion, there will be an audience Q&A and a post-event reception, where Robinson will sign books.

Join Massy, Jonina Kirton and Michelle Poirier Brown for the Launch of, Save Your Prayers, Send Money, Thurs. August 13th at 7 pm!

Save Your Prayers – Send Money boldly takes on the wellness industry. Kirton delves into disability politics through the lived experience of a seventy-year-old Métis woman and recovering New Ager. A hybrid collection that moves fluidly between prose and poetry, Save Your Prayers – Send Money weaves intergenerational trauma and its impact on health through the daily realities of chronic pain and illness. These poems explore where healing might lie and how a peace might be found whether we heal or not. The weft supporting them all is the importance of belonging, of blood memory and cellular memory reaching back to our earliest Ancestors.

Happening Thursday, August 13th at Massy Books (229 E. Georgia St. Vancouver, BC) on the unceded and occupied territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Doors open at 6:30, event starts promptly at 7 pm.

Books will be for sale at the event, followed by a book signing.

Registration is free but required. As Massy Books and covering all related costs, we ask that you assess your proximity to privilege and register via donation if you're able.

Please refrain from wearing scents or heavy perfumes. Covid Protocols: Masks keep our community safe and are recommended. We ask if you are showing symptoms, that you stay home. Thank you kindly.

Jonina Kirton:

Jónína Kirton, an Icelandic and Red River Métis poet, was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Treaty 1, the Traditional Lands of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples and the homeland of the Métis. One of the co-founders of Indigenous Brilliance, she currently lives in New Westminster BC, the stolen land of the Hul’qumi’num speaking peoples. Jónína graduated from the SFU Writer's Studio in 2007 and since that time has published three books with Talonbooks. She was sixty-one when she received the 2016 Vancouver’s Mayor’s Arts Award for an Emerging Artist in the Literary Arts category. Her second collection of poetry, An Honest Woman, was a finalist in the 2018 Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize.

Michelle Poirier Brown:

Michelle Poirier Brown is an internationally published poet, performer, and photographer. She is nêhiýaw-iskwêw and a citizen of the Métis Nation. A feminist activist, now retired from careers as a speech writer, conflict analyst, and federal treaty negotiator, she writes full-time and has taken up birdwatching. She lives on unceded syilx territory in Vernon, BC.
