✨MAY SCRIPT READ✨

Join us Wednesday, May 27th at 7pm for our next community script read!

📃We are so excited to read the dynamic satire script "Trophy Boys", a play about an all-boys debate team during their one-hour prep time as they prepare to argue "feminism has failed women". This uproarious satire (usually played by women and non-binary actors in drag) exposes the insecurity, privilege, entitlement and misogyny that runs rife in Australia's private boys schools.

📌Bramble script reads are a chance for anyone to flex their acting skills and read a new script! We will give an overview of each character, randomly assign roles, and you can let loose in a safe, supportive space! AND as a bonus: you get to read a cool new script and have a rich discussion about the show afterwards.

👀We have some exciting announcements about our Script Reads coming up soon! Stay tuned to learn more.

🌸macbitches - April Script Read🌸

We are delighted to announce we will be reading "macbitches" by Sophie McIntosh for our April script read! RSVP through the link in our bio!

We are running this month's script read as part of "Fates Festival" by . Stay tuned to hear more about the festival and our involvement!

WHAT ARE SCRIPT READS: Like an open mic, but with a script! Bramble script reads are a monthly event where anyone is invited to come and cold-read a script aloud. A great way to read new scripts, develop your acting instincts, and engage with the theatre community!

WHAT'S THE PLAY: We will be reading "macbitches" by Sophie McIntosh. When freshman acting major Hailey unexpectedly scores the coveted role of Lady Macbeth, her upperclassmen rivals immediately invite her over to “celebrate.” As the Fireball and Svedka flow, the young women interrogate their own ambitions as well as the power structures that have shaped their education—and when the night spirals into violent and shocking acts of betrayal, they come to learn that what’s done cannot be undone.

🎂BRAMBLE BIRTHDAY🎂

It is Bramble's 4th Birthday today! We are so grateful for everything!

Over the last four years we've done 3 productions, 4 cabarets, 10+ workshops of original works, 40+ script reads, and multiple community events! We've collaborated with 4 local companies and worked with 100s of local artists -- from actors, designers, playwrights, producers, dancers, and more.

But it's not about numbers. More than anything we've been reflecting about the community we've built and how we've contributed to ongoing conversations about who should be welcomed into theatre spaces.

Bramble was born out of a deep hope to nurture people's love for theatre. From every laugh at our monthly script reads; to bumping into members of our community at opening nights; to getting excited about future projects -- we are seeing how that love of theatre continues to grow.

And we aren't stopping here! Stayed tuned for upcoming announcements over the next few months -- from collaborations with local companies, a production in the summer, and continued community events that we are STOKED about!

💖FEBRUARY SCRIPT READ 💖

Join Bramble this month to read "Proof" by David Auburn. We are so excited to read this reknowned script together!!!

"In Proof, the young but guarded Catherine grieves over the loss of her father, a famous mathematician who had become a legend at the local university for solving complicated proofs, and for suffering from dementia. Just as Catherine begins to give in to her fear that she, too, might suffer from her father’s condition, Catherine’s older sister Claire returns home to help “settle” family affairs and Hal, one of the father’s old students, starts to poke around the house. What Hal discovers in an old speckle-bound notebook brings to light a buried family secret."

Bramble script reads are open to anyone! Simply show up with a device to read from, randomly get assigned a role, and we read through the script together with a rich discussion after. Expect community, snacks, and a relaxed evening!
