Hi there Friends:
I hope you are well! At MISCELLANEOUS Productions Society, we wish you a wonderful holiday season! Below is an update on our work over the past year.
We have had a strong year at MISCELLANEOUS Productions Society (MP) for activities for the most challenged, at-risk elementary and secondary school children in the province.
Please see MISCELLANEOUS Productions’ new 5-minute video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gr43v-Eng_A&t=2s covering 25 years of co-creation transdisciplinary performance and media work for socially and culturally representative, at-risk children and youth.
Over the past year, we delivered our Susan Pond MUSIC 101 program series at the Sarah McLachlan School of Music and worked on the frontlines with representative, at-risk children in inner-city schools in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside/Strathcona, throughout East Vancouver and Prince George, British Columbia.
Our work was wildly successful! Without any prompting from teaching staff, students were playing Elaine's ensemble-building theatre games at recess days after she completed work with DTES classes for 2024.
There is an excellent food program for children at Sprucewood Elementary Community School for the Arts in Prince George. Children never go hungry there but *tragically this is not the case in the East Vancouver Elementary Schools we serve, where soaring food prices have forced staff and volunteers to feed children less food, and food that is, in fact, less nutritious than what healthy, growing children need*.
This is impacting negatively on every aspect of children's learning and health!
Our plan is to raise $7,500 this holiday season to buy trays of healthy sandwiches for the students participating in our performing arts classes at these East Vancouver Elementary Schools in 2025. One annual donor has kicked off the campaign with a generous donation of $600.
To contribute to our East Van Young Performer Food Fund please go to https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/10039 - where you can use a credit card to make a donation. You will receive your charitable receipt almost immediately.
For donations that are more than $250, please contact me at [email protected] and we can set up an email deposit.
This holiday season, thank you so much for thinking about the children we serve, the barriers they face including poverty and food insecurity, and tangible, workable solutions towards ensuring their healthy development and access to the best training in the performing arts in BC!
