Been a while since I posted anything… after the crawl, I started to question ‘why create’. Work and life had been creatively exhausting, and the only thing I kept working on in the background is this portrait of my mother that I wanted to finish for her birthday this year.

I have worked on this over the stretch of 6 months or so, on and off. There were days I didn’t want to paint, there were days I couldn’t paint but just kept pushing paint around. The only “why” was, even though I don’t get to be there for her all the time, I am always thinking of her and that she means the world to me.

This is my largest piece to date. Scale came with its own set of challenges, and I am glad I kept pushing through. I think I like painting large.

Something with oil paints after a looong time. She is finally dry! I Took a weekend workshop with a few weeks ago, and learned a bunch of fun new ways to use paints. Progressing into making a variety of marks and and slightly more alternate way to use the medium, this fits right into the path I wanna be on creatively. The more I play with oil paints, they more I hope to get comfortable with the medium. They still feel very formal to me but I hope to get over that as I use em more and more!

Calling her done. Things didn’t go as planned, alot went south. This has been the biggest, and one of the most frustrating pieces I have made; Going bigger, that was expected.

I hope to be able to use what I learned here onto the next piece, and I am happy to be moving on!
