Attention Deaf interpreters and ASL interpreters! If you’re interested in interpreting theater performances, don’t miss this chance—apply now!

Seeking ASL and Deaf interpreters who are interested in joining a free and supported professional development program to learn and grow their skills for interpretation for the stage.

Interpreters will have the mentorship of two leading ASL interpreters, Carmelle Cachero and Elizabeth Morris, to grow their skills in interpretation for performance. Interpreters selected for this program will observe and shadow the mentors during two GCTC productions. Then, during a third production, mentees will interpret a section of the show in front of a live audience and receive feedback from Deaf audience members.

This opportunity will give interpreters a chance to learn and grow their ASL skills from a culturally informed Deaf perspective, from ASL interpreter leaders in the National Capital Region and meet industry professionals in the performing arts.

Applications are due September 2nd 11:59 PM EST. More information about this program is available on our website, at gctc.ca/asl-training-arts.

I'm flying to Winnipeg soon! I've always loved the community there.

I will perform alongside MSD (Manitoba School of the Deaf) students, featuring poetry, storytelling, visual vernacular, and drama. The event will be English interpreted. Bring family members who aren't fluent in ASL! Thanks to the Winnipeg Arts Council and Alice Crawford from Manitoba Cultural Society of the Deaf for their support!!

I'm looking forward to the Free Gathered Series Workshops at Deaf Centre Manitoba and teaching participants to learn about visual storytelling and visual vernacular on June 8th and 9th followed by mini-performances on June 9th! Open to anyone with some fluency in ASL. Limited spots are available. Register by June 2nd. Contact Alice at [email protected] for more info. See you there!!😍😍!
