Lo-if Spectacle Club and are very excited to welcome you to the first Exquisite Pressure! ExP is a night for artists to share their new works in progress in front of an audience, gather feedback, and put their investigations to the test.

We’ve curated these three pieces because they ask exciting questions about form and content, and how to to stretch and bend the definition of performance. They all, in their own ways, are curious about taking the long way around a question in order to find the answer, or even something more interesting than just an answer. As an emerging art and performance collective ourselves, we have found it so valuable to have had the opportunity to peak inside their processes and work alongside Jarin to put this event together.

ExP #1 is a night for costumes if you happen to be wearing one, though they are neither encouraged nor are they discouraged. It is a night for laughter (but don’t expect any jokes). It is a night to experience new work in a beautiful, brave, and vulnerable early stage.

🫧 performance makers listen up! What Lab’s newest program Exquisite Pressure is an exciting opportunity to create, develop and ultimately showcase something new this fall!

ExP is a performance residency culminating in a public showcase. each artist, company, or collective is given 25 hours of studio time and a paid stipend to create a 10-15 minute work-in-progress piece, to be shared at a public showing. each round of ExP is hosted by a different local company or collective, and we excited to announce the first round is hosted by YOURS TRULY.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!!! QUARTER TURN ( session 3!) registration is now open!

This is a practical workshop in creative recovery/unblocking facilitated by the ever resplendent who says...

“I want to hold space for your creativity to recharge and for it to arrive each day for your life to be full of the magnetism and beauty you deserve. All life is creation. Once I deeply understood this fact, it became so easy to just step into the flow of the universe. The “good” flow and the “bad’” flow and the entire spectrum.

I do not claim to know anything. I do not want to be anyone’s guru. I can share my experience, hold space, tell stories, lead discussion and share teachings. Most importantly I can assist you in keeping yourself accountable to this process. I have spoken to so many people throughout COVID19 who could not complete this course by themselves, and here I am offering this opportunity...”

This session will run on Sundays and Mondays from May 2 - July 25 2021.

$500 for 12 1-hour yoga classes and 12 3-hour artist’s way check-ins/teachings
$100 discount for QTBIPOC folks ($400)

instead of getting testimonials from past participants of the QUARTER TURN workshop (which will be happening again soon, stay tuned...) we decided to ask for contextless photos from the camera rolls of session 1 creatives and quotes from their morning pages!

a word on the upcoming QUARTER TURN virtual workshop from xomaleon:

“Imagine me (xomaleon phîlip babur) a kind, creative, inspired midwife guiding you through the (re)birth of your innate creativity.

There’s magic in showing up to this course. New-Agey bu****it it is not- it’s a lot more interesting, wild, raw and… sustainable.

My framework as facilitator is towards decolonization and unlearning. It honours and accepts the multitudes of lived experiences arriving to share Zoom space. I am devoted to creativity. It is where love grows.

The Artist’s Way is a spiritual journey, and what that means to you is up to you to define as you read the book. The word God comes up, but it is up to you to name the god/goddess/goddin of your understanding. I come from a Catholic upbringing but have been studying Taoism, Buddhism, Sufi poetry and Yoga for over ten years now and don’t call myself Christian and neither am I tied to any one religion. I have friends of all faiths and no faiths, all genders, BIPOC, white, all kinds and creeds. Like everything in life, this course will be what you make it and I promise to treat each of you with the utmost respect no matter what your journey so far. I am a friend to the stranger, as I have been one everywhere I have gone my entire life.
