The Minimalist Double Weave Blanket ✨️⁠

This is the secret project that has been on my loom these past few months... and I loved it so much, I have a second one on the loom right now in rosy pinks and browns.

Well, I've been catching up for the past few weeks after being away in Asia with my family... this is the first video that I've published in a while, but I'm pretty excited to share. Today on the SweetGeorgia YouTube channel, I'm talking about this double weave, double width blanket that I wove on my Spring countermarche loom. The blanket is woven in four colours of our SweetGeorgia BFL+Silk DK yarn. It's a squishy, soft, and gorgeous fabric full of substance and drape... perfect for making a cozy corner on your couch. ⁠

Never woven double weave before? Have no fear, I do teach a complete course on weaving double weave on 4-shafts in our ! Weaving double-width is a great way to maximize a more compact weaving loom ☺️⁠

I believe this is what is called “too much of a good thing”. Hand-painted yarn in the warp, hand-dyed yarn in the weft… I think this weft colour is too much, too high contrast, and really ends up obscuring the handpainted warp. I’d been saving this Merino Silk Lace in Tourmaline for over a decade, waiting for the right project… 😆 maybe this was not it. But I’m interested to see how it will look from afar when it’s off the loom. Funny how “mistakes” look different with some time and a change of perspective.

Last year, I varnished and assembled this 4-shaft loom but never had a chance to really use it. Now I’m taking this opportunity to weave the Kaleidoscope scarf designed by on it ✨️

I wound a warp on the warping board and dressed the loom yesterday. It is all ready to weave, as soon as I wind some bobbins. The loom is sitting on my dining table now and I’m hoping to get some weaving time with it this weekend 🤞

After two back-to-back trips out of YVR, I’m home and tidying everything up to hunker down for the winter 😆 Getting the studio all pretty, then cleaning up my dining room loom, and later my attic loom room….

After a whirlwind few months of weaving, filming courses for , and making things, it’s time to reset!

Almost done with this warp. This has been some of the most enjoyable weaving I've done for months now. I love the easy treadling, the shift of colours, and how a single strand of silk can bring it together. These humble hand-dyed warps sat in a ragged pile in my attic for years and I didn't think they were worth anything until I stretched them onto this loom. You never know where you'll find a pocket of joy. ✨️
